I want to install a nav/rear camera stereo. Is it doable or should I go the single DIN flip out route? Even that looks like it might hit the shift lever. Does anyone have any pics of their install on a 2000 era set up? I really want to get the back up cam. The ass on my van is huge.
I installed a backup camera in my 2000, but I instead went with a separate monitor and mounted it to the roof panel. This way if either the stereo or the monitor has a problem I don't have to replace an entire unit.
I had installed a single DIN with a 7" flip up monitor, which also is my backup reverse monitor. With a double DIN, the dash would have had to be trimmed which I did not want. I have an Alpine IVA-D310 and it clears the column shifter lever in all positions. Just one thing you have to be careful of is to make sure your stereo unit doesn't open and close automatically when the key is turned off and on. My Alpine used to be on auto open and close, but if I quickly shift into reverse after starting the van the flip up screen would hit the shifter.
Here are some pics with the shifter in Park and Drive positions, along with the screen in close, open and flat positions.
i did the 2 din in mine but the whole 7'' screen folds down missing the gear shift when
putting a dvd in. i did cut peices out of another dash to give it a factory install. I still need to do a backup camera.
