I replaced 2 sensors on my 1998 dodge ram 1500 v-8/2-wheel drive when it started running high rpm's and had no power. Check engine and abs lights were lit up. That fixed it and now I am having the same problem but no lights on. I have already been thru the tranny issue and it was fixed. I am at a loss as to what the problem is now. Anyone with some leads as to what her trouble is now? Thanks in advance, deejay
While driving it runs high rpm's and struggles to get power to shift to next gear. Seems it was 02 sensor and abs, I know one was in the tranny area. I am a dodge woman but not so good in the mechanical dept.
I'm a bit unclear as to what's going on: might check "throttle valve cable" adjustment and that it operates/returns properly, or maybe plugged cat, or TPS. Just guessing.
... Need a bit more info; is it hard to get high rpm's, and/or truck won't pull when it's at high rpm?
over the net diagnosis, BEWARE
alls most of us can do is guess using experience, some more than others.
the more information you can give us about the last problem and the current one the better. what trouble codes did the dodge computer send? how long since the repair? was the repair performed by a certified mech?
just let us know. we want to help!
To be exact the transmission sensor & ABS wheel sensor were replaced & it is acting very similar to that problem. No lights are on this time but I thought maybe one of these that I replaced might have gone bad & picked up 2 more new ones and tried that but it did not fix the problem. While driving it runs 2 or higher rpm's & it takes all she has to shift to each gear. I let off the gas a little so it can shift & catch up. What else can I tell you???
i guess what im asking is what prompted you to replace those sensors specifically?
engine codes?
these problems are common for dodges even after the fix is applied.
there is a secrete to this truck stuff that keeps most shade tree repair people frustrated!
Unsure what "it takes all she has to shift" means?
... Is it reluctant to shift, or is engine revving and trans slipping?
... If it does not want to shift, could be a "not returning/sticky throttle valve cable" issue; won't cost a penny to check it or the adjustment, and if that's the issue, is often a zero cost or cheap fix (maybe a return spring, likely not more).
That little 16 year old spring would do good to last this long in the rust belt. It's on the outside of the trans on the driverside. Check it out and replace it anyway,it's almost old enough to vote. Some transmission shops offer a free diagnostic inspection and most are quite good at this kind of problem.
2 gals, 1 wearing coveralls, and a few minutes with a flash light can check it; Martini and "whopper fish story, etc" are optional, lol. ... Good luck on whatever you decide.
Truck going in for check-up Monday; clogged cat, oxygen sensor getting checked & I will add the spring thing to the list. Thanks guys-fresh batteries in the flashlight & I can't find my damn coveralls...
It's always good to pick friends that have their own coveralls, lol; otherwise gotta pay someone with a shingle "shop rate" for their guy to wear em. Good luck.
make sure if they swap out sensors to "reset the pcm brain" this aids in the learning process for the truck. a must do!
