so i finally got my engine all together an in the truck.
first started it up and it was running good on first start. then got worse and worse till it eventually died.
so it came yo with a code, intermittent loss of cmp or ckp.
so i initially start pointing fingers at sensors. crank is common and i had replaced it not to long ago so i got a new one on warranty. same problem. got a new cam sensor and it made it a little better but its still there.
so right now im at a loss. is there any other common places that these go bad?
im thinking on unplugging the computer tonight and checking connections to make sure there isnt any moisture issues and corrosion in it. then its into the wiring harness to see if there is a cracked wire or something like that.
really want to drive this thing and im getting tired of chasing problems.
pulled some wiring apart and i dont see anything that has been cracked or broken. no wires got pinched in the engine swap that i can see. no extra draw on the fuel system and tried swapping out asd relays. i used the factory relay to trigger the new one so theres even less draw then there originally was.
i think i might try a oem sensor and im going to try to pull the inspection plate off and see if the flex plate is bent or something.
Damn man this sucks to hear that it's giving you problems. Wish I could give you some ideas on tracking this problem down but I've got none that you haven't/aren't already trying.
the thing i dont understand is it ran when i parked it. now sitting in a garage for 7 months and all the sudden it wants to throw a code and run like crap
tested the wires going form the connector to the computer. good 5v reference coming form the computer and the signal wire has very low resistance. checked the ground on it and i had 6.5 ohms resistance. checked the wire going to the computer and it was good at the computer and the computer grounds were also good. so i retested the ground through the computer and i get .5 ogms all the sudden. great problem not found or fixed. start the truck and it runs like crap still. pulled the connector at the crank sensor and checked the resistance to the computer again and i am not getting 11.6 ohms. what is going on here. i have tried a different computer and still has the same results. so it has to be wiring related.
so apparently when you plug the scanner in it adds resistance. unhook the scanner and it all goes down to .5.
so not longer thinking wiring because it still runs terrible.
looks like it could be a trans pull to check the tone ring.
anyone wanna buy a truck?? new engine
Coil/plug wires too close to a harness? ... Might loosen gas cap as the venting? is now different (I never did fully understand the new venting, sounded like tank was receiving positive pressure from charger). GL
changed the distributor and it works. now to figure out the pinion angle and get rid of the shake and finish putting the electric fan controller on and it should be good to go.
