Transmission Limp mode

I have a 95 dodge avenger two door, 2.0 L, 4 SPD Automatic and has recently gone into limp mode (shifts down and stays in 2nd gear). I have found the problem to be the Transmission shift solenoid which is easy to get to and replace. I am wondering while I'm replacing it, if their are any components that it connects to that also need to be replaced too, I've heard stories where the person puts in the new solenoid, and it breaks from and old component and some mismatching voltages between the two parts. I also have a rough idle, and have replaced new plugs, but also need to replace the ignition coil, the thing that the spark plug wires connect to to get their current. I also need to replace the exhaust gasket where the header meets the engine exhaust valves. Right now, the shifting solenoid is my main concern, and have found it online for about 160, but i want to make sure i do the procedure correctly if anyone knows the answer.
