I just put a Dana 44 cad axle on my 76 W100 and the driver side is leaking oil from the axle pretty good. How do you change the axle seal? I know I have to take the axle shaft out, is the seal in with the cad? Any help would be great.
I finally changed the seal, what a pain that was. Had problems getting the seal in straight, it kept wanting to go in crooked. I think I got it in right, I dont think I got it in all the way, but it looks like the leak is gone. Only time will tell.
Do some searching and some reading on it. I used some all tread and a washer to pull it into place, you will see there is all most no room to work. Good luck.
My RC is going to the shop tomorrow to change the front axle seals. We changed the outer ones - FORGOT to change the inner ones, when we re-geared last year.. and it's burping out BOTH ends of the axle now.
I decided to replace the CAD at that time (the hoses were shot, and it was the factory original!), but now it's gummed up with axle grease. We're just gonna lock the axle AND the CAD, but it isn't a problem, since I've already converted the axles to manual (lock-out) hubs.
