Hello, I own a 2005 Ram 1500 Hemi Magnum running great with +- 60000 miles on the meter. But today, the engine had some weird reactions as I was queuing in traffic on the highway, but all of a sudden, my engine just shut down as I was reaching a speed if approx. 10-15 miles/h in Drive-mode... felt really scary at the moment... but I put it in Neutral to restart again, which he did, but a few miles further the same thing happened again, since then I put it in 1st gear till traffic was driving fluently. I must admit that I had the same problem 6 months ago, but then it disappeared till today. Has any one already had the same problem on these :rck: trucks?
Nah, it wasn't just filled, and about the sparks, if one of them wouldn't work, I should hear it at the noise of the engine... but clean the throttle body is a good idea, although I dont really know where that one is positioned. Now here in Belgium, we are driving on LPG cuz the damn fuel is way to expensive for these trucks as they suck everything up...How about the valve? Is it really gonna make a difference?
Thanks guys
PS: wished Dodge was still in Europe so it would be easier for me to get a hold on parts...
ASD relay is in the underhood relay panel. Basically, the ASD needs to see a signal from the crank sensor. If it doesn't, it shuts down spark & fuel to the engine. You didn't say, is the truck completely dead, or just the engine ?
Check the transmission fluid level. My '06 had a stalling problem at low speeds - usually as I came to a stop before the engine was up to operating temperature. Checked the transmission level and it was a little low. Added a quart and the stalling issue went away.
EGR is another possibility, but usually it will throw a code for that if it is bad.
Its only the engine thats dead, I still have the electronics on (radio,...). so i'll check the relay out. About the transmission fluid level, Doug D, Ill come back to you later gimmie some time to check that out
CORRECTION, I do have some coeds appearing: P0406, P0138, P0157 P2161.
And Doug D, I've checked the transmission fluid, and its at the right level. Thanks
0406 - Exhaust Gas Recirculation Position Sensor High
0138 - Oxygen Sensor Bank 1 Sensor 2 Voltage High (upstream right side)
0157 - Oxygen Sensor Bank 2 Sensor 2 Voltage Low (downstream right side)
2161 - Vehicle Speed Sensor 2 Erratic
Check the right side O2s and make sure they are plugged in securely. It might be time to swap the EGR. (right side head, in front). Clean and reinsert the speed sensor in the rear end. These are just suggestions.
First thing I'd do is replace the EGR. About $40 at Advance Auto or AZ. That should cure the P0406 - though 'd be a bit surprised if the CEL wasn't on. Back when I had to replace mine it was a dealer only part - the high volume dealers were $95 while I found a small dealer that only charged $77.
As for the other codes, I'd do as suggested before placing anything else.
Ok thanks guys, I phoned the dealer, and i will drop the truck there by the 18th of June so he'll fix it cuz here in Belgium, its very hard to get a hold of Dodge parts, unless you're a dealer or you import it from the US so... But for the speed sensor, i've replaced it (ordered it at the dealer) cuz it broke don about 5 months ago. So I just think the dealer will fi the code by plugging in the computer and make the truck know that there's a new sensor been placed. Thank u all guys, Ill keep you updated when ill get my truck back and fixed
Yep, I've changed the EGR valve, but it didn't change much... Now I've got a bigger problem... i think ill have to change both O2 sensors, because the truck doesn't run right... and when i push the pedal to 2000 rpm and then let it go, some times the engine shuts down by it selves... the truck now is giving me these codes: p0138, p0157 and p2161. So i think the O2 sensors are causing this reaction... Ive also recently changed the spark plugs of the second cylinder while it gave me the P0302 code :serious
thanks
