Looking to downsize from stock 20's to aftermarket 17's with beefier tire. I am interested in
METHOD RACE WHEELS
MESH 17's.
I have read that some 17 inch wheels do not fit around the disc brakes and wanted to make sure these are compatible. Also I do not have a lift but I would like to get into a beefier tire without rubbing. What size tire can fit without rubbing or significant issue at stock height? If you have pictures, lets see them.
BOlie - I was logging on specifically to ask a similar question. I am looking at going from stock 20x9s to 18x9s, probably -12 offset. I have a Laramie and I want to be at least flush with the flares. Other than esthetics, has anybody had any issues with smaller diameter wheels?
I have Bilsteins in front at 2.1 and am going to add 1 inch Daystar spacer in rear to help the Airlift 1000s when I tow. Looking at Ridge Grappler 295/70/18 (34.3x11.7).
Thanks for the info, and hopefully some pics.
i want 20 ies on mine i have 17 on my express but worry about towing my travel trailer i have been reading not difference any more on weight but going to 20 from 17 changes the gear ratio at the wheels
Loco - what am I missing about wheel size that would affect towing? Other than slightly less sidewall on same diameter tire I can't see much difference. If you stick with stock tire diameter you should have plenty of tire to tow. I have stock tires on mine which are about 32.5 inches OD - even on 20s I have plenty of tire for towing.
The wheel size won't directly affect the gear ratio either. A 33 OD tire on a 17 inch wheel turns the same as a 33 OD on a 20 inch tire. I am looking at going from a stock 32.5 OD on 20s to about a 33.5 OD on 18s which will change gear ratio, but not enough that I should notice.
