Pick up Coil goes bad 3-Times WHY!!!!

In the last year I have gone through 3-Pick up coils and the other coil on the lower part of engine. Why do I keep burning them out? I just did a toon up with cap rotor, plugs and wires. Then pop I was stranded on the side of road again. I now keep an extra set in truck....Help

Could be just bad coils.

I went though 2 Accell and 2 from O'rilleys before I found one that was good.

Never get an Accell ignition coil! Total junk! Just do some searching here. Everyone that bought one had issues. Mine left me stranded on the side of the road. I felt like sending it back to Accell and telling them what a piece or crap it is.

Are you talking about the pick up coil in the distributor? It's known as a cam sensor. I'm guessing the coil on the lower part of the engine is the ignition coil.

Yes the Cam sensor it the correct term. I've had issues with the lower Ignition Coil. Now my truck is running ruff. I can feel and see the engine skipping a little? I will most likely change the cap and rotor again. Then do the wires again? If the cap or rotor don't cure the problem.

Check to see if your Spark plug wires are cross sparking. Theirs a TSB out about having the SPW routed in a particular fashion to keep the cross jumping from happening.

My uncle's 97 5.2 has had an Accel universal coil mounted on the passenger's fender well since it was on the lot in 97. No problems here. I also have on in my civics distributor with no issues. Not to rule out bad coils for the OP, just saying Accel isn't just a bunch of crap. EVERY manufacturer can have defects out there despite closely monitored building processes. (Or lack thereof) Trust me, I deal with it from Mopar parts everyday.

Not saying all Accel stuff is crap. Just the coils(stock replacement) that go in our trucks!
Way to many people here have had problems with them. After mine went bad i actually checked the ohm values across the terminals like you would with the stock coil to see if it was within spec. It was not.

If it's the "universal" one i'm thinking of that is an old school coil that sits in an oil bath. They never go bad because the wire used is much thicker than the molded style(oem stock). I plan on using a MSD 6A and the old school Accel super coil like i have on other vehicles.

Word. It is the universal chromie style inthe oil bath. Idk why more people don't usethem. They're hella-easy to setup and are quite a bit more powerful than the stock unit.

The resistance on the old school coils are different than the stock style. It could cause some issues but the people that have used them don't seem to have any.

So I replaced all parts Cam Sensor, Coil, Wires, Plugs, Cap, Rotor, I still have a ruff Idle which makes the engine jump. You can see the tack needle just up and down? What could this be??? The engine has all kinds of power and does not skip at all when driving, 5.9L Gas Could it be bad gas or dirty carb...

AKA "super coil". Cant beat em! Used with a MSD 6A and now you have the ultimate ignition.

The TPS Was just changes about a month ago. I never changed the o2 Sensor? I'm running some carb cleaner in gas today and I might clean the carb out with spray.
