The Platinums won't be a 'fine wire' plug. The Platinums will have like a 100,000 mile life expectancy. The Irdiumns fine wire is possable half or more of that again.

NGK G power Platinum 0.6 mm
NGK Iridium IX 0.6 mm http://www.ngksparkplugs.com/product...x.asp?mode=nml I guess it all depends on ones definition of fine wire. |

No worries, I remember when there was no such thing as fine-wire platinums.
The Autolites mentioned here are actually 'iridium enhanced',,,, mot likely why they can sell for a discount when compared to other Irids. Still, for the $$$, a heck of a value, especially when you need SIXTEEN of them! LOL! |

They have a five year unlimited mileage guarantee. Some of the other brands depending on who was selling were $10.00 to $12.00 EACH.

Apparently that word 'enhanced" could be used with ANY of them. Part of the tip is Iridium and part is Platinum and best I can tell(read) they all are made that way. Lots of posts on other car forumns saying same thing about idle, mileage, price and such. Several posting on a Ford forum tell users of these plugs that the better idle can't just be from a plug replacement. That it must be from just installing new, fresh plugs. Others know better.

I have read some Mopar Q and A sessions where they suggested a long milage plug was in the works. Then on another forum they said the the reason they use copper plugs and the 30 k limit was to prevent corrosion and removal issues in the aluminum head.

Bull. They use it cause they are cheap. Cut cost. They don't use them in the hybrid 5.7 or the cop 5.7. Heads on my vette are aluminum and same on my 4.6 Ford. They both have Iridium's as do many many vehicles these days. with aluminum heads/blocks.

Whats the part number for those long life plugs in the cop ram? I looked over the special service manual and it lists the standard 30k plug.

Why wast money changing out your plugs at 30 thousand miles I went 60 thousand and they still look good and truck ran fine! Truck are EFI now days so you have the correct burn all the time not like old carbs that wouldn't run the correct mix all the time.

Cop and hybred 5.7 plugs sold through dealer parts counter at this time. They will appear aftermarket sooner or later. (they are a NGK Platiumn.( so I've read) They are pricey compared to longer wearing Iridium sold aftermarket.

Just got my oem plugs from the dealership for $4.70/plug. After a few discussions with some guys I know there I decided to stay factory. They have seen burnt pistons and lean conditions with platinum plugs.

I did the same.. Truck runs great. Too bad that I am going to have to take them out too soon since the RIPP requires plugs one stage colder *NGK*.

I say bull on burnt pistons and lean conditions on stock motors. Bet the plug manufacturers say the same. Plugs can't lean it out. The ECM can. A 'turner's can and such. As I stated before I called several plug manufacturers. Their take on it was IF their plugs caused issues we would not sell them for that application. RAM/Dodge would NOT use Platinums in the OTHER 5.7s if there were 'burnt' piston issues. The ONLY reason a fat tipped nickel tipped (cheap) plug is used to start with is COST.
