Hey guys-
I recently bought a 1976 dodge w300 adventurer with a 400 in it. It had been sitting for a few years with no air cleaner on it so i took the carb off cleaned it replaced gaskets and cleaned everything out I could out of the motor, replaced spark plugs, wires, starter, battery, got timing set right. It turns over and is getting spark and fuel but still won't start. Possibly not getting enough spark? Any ideas would be very much appeciated. Thanks!

Compression test all 8 cylinders. Check plugs for fouling/flooding while they are out.
Does the distributor rotor turn? Recheck timing and for spark.

If you can get a multi-meter on the ignition system, I'd be curious how MUCH spark you are getting...

I would put the #1 on top dead center and then check to see where your rotor is pointing in on the distributor cap, if that is good then do a compression check to make sure you have compression. After setting that long the lifters could be collapsed and you may need to prime the system to pump them up.

If you have spark, it should fire if fuel is getting to the cylinders. Was the hood and air cleaner on the truck for all those years? You need to pull the carb and soak it in "Solder Seal"(comes in a gallon can with a parts basket inside). Then get several different thickness bare wires that will fit into all the tubes and orifices that you can see to make sure they are clear. Be careful you do not damage anything. Make sure float needle seat and valve is not clogged. May need a new carb.

My 1987 power ram 250 does almost the same thing. I can get it to turn over and it's fast but it just seems to not be able to start. I was thinking the ignition coil or something? What do you guys think??? Thanks
