How many buy off the lot and How many order?

Never ordered a truck or car, etc. always get off the lot

Bought mine a few weeks ago off of the lot. They had to do a dealer trade for me to get the express with all the options that I wanted.

Not sure about you guys, but here in Houston, you can find a truck with everything you want on it. If the dealer your at doesn't have it, then they typically can get it that day from one of the other area dealers.

That's why I can't understand having to order a truck... Unless you just want something completely custom (SLT painted like a rainbow, glass floorboards, automatic burger dispenser in-dash and a jet rocket sticking out of the tailgate), it's usually close by 99.99% of the time...

There are way too many Rams laying around on lots in the Houston area for me to justify ordering from the factory. But then again, that's in the Houston market...

I got mine off of the lot about two weeks ago a 2012 express crew cab 4x4 it's my first brand new, I traded in my 03 4x4 QC 1500 before that I had a 97 club cab 4x4 and before that I had a 79 power wagon

I have always purchased off the lot, One thing I always wondered though, When you order can you still negotiate? Do you have to do financing up front or is it something you do when you take delivery?

I only ask because, While It'll be 4 or 5 years, I may order my next truck, I am tired of lacking one or 2 options and having to add em later. For once I wanna get a truck has everything I want immediately.

You can still negotiate but it wont be a better deal than off the lot. Dealers want and need to move the current inventory so an ordered vehicle is not a priority for them. I still ordered mine knowing i couldve probably got a better deal with one off the lot. As for the financing you still sign a contract and if you are financing through them they would still run your credit up front im assuming but other than a deposit all monies (check from credit union or yourself if youre not financing through them) are due on delivery..

I searched dealer inventory and found the truck I wanted 13 miles away.Went in for a test drive and bought it on the spot.
2012 Power Wagon SLT

I ordered mine as well. I wanted specific things this time and did not want to settle with anything but what i wanted. If you don't mind waiting, it is worth it. Mine took 2.5 months to get from day of order to day of driving off the lot.

The last two trucks prior to the one I have now I ordered. But I bought them early in the model year. This time I waited until the end of the model year and it was to late to get a 2012 ordered. So I went searching for the truck I wanted. I live in Florida on the west Coast and checked every dealer from Tarpon Springs to Naples and none of them had what I wanted. I checked around Central Florida in the Lakeland to Orlando Area and still nothing I wanted. Started down the East Coast at Jacksonville and finally found a truck in Ft. Pierce. Called the dealer on the phone and told him I wanted to buy his truck. After some dealing and faxing proposals back and forth we made a deal with a tentative price for my trade and I got up early in the morning and drove over there and finalized the deal and drove home in a new truck. I have never found a decent deal with the dealers in my area. I have traveled at least a 150 miles or more to get the deal I wanted. The dealers around me ware proud of their vehicles and they didn't even want to do a dealers trade for it. So I took my business to the East Coast. After I bought it two of the dealers called me wanting to make the deal I wanted but I just laughed and told them I bought it on my own in Ft. Pierce. I told them they had their chance and blew it. It pays to shop around and get the deal you want since you have to live with the deal you make.

I order everytime. 5 times now since 1977. If I am going to pay that much I want it just perfict. Last one was a 2012 2500 Regular cab. Orderd Mid March arrived early May. From Mexico.

Bought mine off the lot the dealer had over 300 different models and options so had a lot to choose from

Bought mine off a lot. Dealer was motivated to move the 2012.

Living

Off the lot! Living in the south, finding a truck with the options I want is never too much of an issue.
