so i was talking with a buddy and he heard its cheap like 400$ you can convert your single axle truck to a dually if you have the rims already. that possible? if so what do i need to do it? i was thinking of building a flatdeck for my truck so if i can i think i will just make it into a duallyn first...... anybody know about this?

There is a guy on here the did it to his maroon 3/4 ton. He used mega cab rear fenders. Thats all ud have to find is rear fender flares and the spacers for the front rims

The dually axle is 2" wider so you may want to add a spacer. The leaf pack has a couple more springs than the single rear wheel counter part. I'd save the money on finding a dually wheel spacer for the front and just run a regular wheel and tire combo.

your best bet if to find someone with a dually that wants to convert to SRW. they pop up often enough. your better off swapping rear axles then trying to rig it up.

Axle width wont matter much if your positive your putting a flat bed on.

Axle width does matter because there is so much backspacing on the dually rims.
One ton SRWs and Duallies have the same number of leafsprings

i didnt think about that.......longer axle accounts for a bigger hub.....carrying 2 wheels?
I was just thinking about him trying to get wheels in the fenders properly

You will need adapters on the front as well, here is a picture of OEM 3500 fronts.
Like Danny said, finding someone with a dually that wants to trade out is your best bet.

I'd jump on a diesel forum. I am still a member on a Cummins forum and guys are always looking to swap. If I still had my dually I'd swap. I was looking to from a dually to a single.

you need to run a dually axle or buy a 2" adapter to push the dually wheels out or they will hit the springs. if this is the route you go your pretty much stuck with slightly larger then stock tires, because any tire much bigger then stock requires a spacer in between the dually wheels, and you shouldnt run an adapter and a spacer. not to mention the fact that you can probably find a dually axle for the same price is not less then the cost of the adapters, probably even free if your willing to swap.

4" spacers? i wouldnt. honestly, if all your looking for is a flatbed, i would keep it SRW. theres plenty of good looking SRW flatbeds out there, and youll have more tire and wheel options, not to mention its cheaper too.

yeah i truly dont even want to make it a dually but i cant make the fletdeck any wider than the box is, can i.......? i want the flatdeck as wide as possible. because im basically going to make on each side and on the end 3 pockets each side, then going to fab up something that goes like just maybe 4 inches pst the start of the front windsheild so its going to be a flatdeck with a big headache rack AND it goes on top of the cab. because im a dirtbike rider so i want to be able to haul 5 bikes and 5 riders.(so three in the flatdeck part and 2 on top of the cab) or throw my custom peice im going to fab up put it in its pockets and it will be like a little motorhome kind of thing. and i will haul my bike in the little hitch hauler thing i have made........ so i basically want it as wide as possible............so im pretty well best bet is buy the whole kit? im looking at kit 100AP to buy then probably but im wondering doesnt it have to have an adapter up front!?!? and they dont sell online so how am i going to be able to buy anything since i live in saskatchewan canada.....
^ ! ! relooked at the site and i obviosuly need the 100 and the 250 kits cause its a dually hahaha..... little braindead sometimes.... Last edited by freerida69a : 12-10-2012 at 09:34 PM. |

I think 102" is as wide as you can make it but that would look goofy.
I recently saw a lifted Ford dually with huge tires on it and no spacers. This poor guy had 30 day tags and probably thought he was the coolest thing on the road but his tires were rubbing together which is a big no-no because this creates heat and he will start having blowouts. If you use spacers just make sure there is enough room between the tires so that when you are loaded your tires will still not rub...
