03 4.7 2X4, 163k miles.
Just did a full fluid swap a few weeks ago. It had been last changed at 99k miles. I went ahead and changed all of the fluid by pulling the return line while filling it back up. No problems here. The fluid was a pretty dark shade of red. We don't really haul anything on a regular basis. Changed the sump and oil cooler return line filter. Well worth it. At 180K, I will only do a sump filter and fluid swap. Every 60k miles, full fluid swap and both filters.

I am a HUGE Amsoil fan. But not for the Dodge tranny. I tried it, and dumped it and went back to Valvoline ATF+4 Synthetic. These trannys seem picky, and the Amsoil was seeming to make it "slip" into gear. The mechanic warned me, and he is an Amsoil dealer, but against his warning I did it anyway. Never again. Its a great product, and its in my diffs, Oil, Transfer Case. But not my tranny.

#1. my truck has 105k. had it since 70k. i assume everyone will suggest i just do a pan drop and oil refill. 7qts or so. i know not to do a flush, but would you guys pump out the torque convertor too and get all the oil out i can while im in there? or is a 50% change of oil the right mix for an old tranny?
#2. why are some people adding 80weight gear oil to their trannys? #3. how many inches lower is a new higher capacity oil pan, and how many quarts does it add to the capacity. its basicly just to spread the heat out a little more right? keep the temps down.

So what is the consensus on Royal Purple ATF? I see they do reccomend it ok for Chrysler trannys. ATF+4 I have used it with great results in my diff's and engines on the HEMI and my racecar. Also in my TH400 in the racecar. 75K Km on my Hemi tranny now, I should change it.
Also, how much do I need? I read you can pull the cooler line and run it out? Do you idle till it just stops pumping? Isn't that bad for internals? Run them dry??

I have ~130k miles on the truck at the moment.
I did the first at 30k, second at 60k, 3rd at 100k. Going to do the next at 150k, and every 50k after that. Here are my thoughts: - NEVER backflush this transmission. There is no point since there are two replaceable filters in the design, and it will only cause problems from blasting the junk already in the filter back into the system. - Simply doing a pan drop / filter change / fluid refill at some normal interval should suffice for just about all trucks.

I don't change my transmission fluid.. Don't think I have ever changed it.
Now, I do change Transmissions. For a few years, I would put a rebuilt one in every 6 to 8 months. Saves on the ATF fluid costs. I doubt I'll ever own a transmission that lives long enough to change fluid.
