Look in your glove box, It should have a sticker with paint code, engine, GEAR RATIO, type of rear end, and some other stuff i think.

Mark the tire and the driveshaft,drive ahead one turn of the tire,count revolutions of shaft. Should be easy enough.

Sticker in glove box is gone, door jamb sticker does not have gear ratio, nothing underhood, no tag on rear. Non stock tire size.

Maybe by vin?

Stock is 3.55 FYI so unless it has been changed its 3.55. I have a 2000, 1996 and friend has a 1999 all 3.55 along with a few other club members with them all 3.55

Awesome good info BigGreen.

I second the wheel spinning. Jack the truck up, put the rear axle on jack stands, spin the passenger side tire and count how many times the driveshaft spins. Obviously mark a spot to be sure.

And is your 02 a V10 they do not have the rpms a V8 has hince they came only with the 3.55.

Well since they don't make em and only made them from 94-03 they aill become collectable I hope and desirable. Anyway I love mine and wouldn't trade it for a 2012 Cummins (well maybe even up).

mine is a 98 2500 4x4 with 4.10 gears i found out thru my dealer was in picking up some parts and he checked the vin number and said that is what i had

And I 3rd it for the simple reason is a previous owner may have done a gear swap rendering the glove box/door jam sticker info incorrect.

Thanks guys. I guess I will have to count the revolutions at some point. This truck has been slightly modified with a leveling kit and did have larger tires on it before according to what the previous owner told me about the previous owner.

I'm going to deal with the leaking valve cover gaskets first.

If you pull the diff cover the ring gear will be stamped with the ratio.
