Truck failed emission test

Well I went to get my emission test done on my truck and it failed cause it threw a code which was for the EGR and then he said it would fail because of the muffler dumps right after the muffler. WHAT...... I never heard that before has anyone else ???

I thought it was OK so long as the pipes were longer than the enclose part of the cab?

Im a texas emissions inspector. Its a fact that the exhaust has to go past the passsenger area of the truck only! Just as long as it behind the back window your fine. These computers are really smart today, replace the EGR with the barrery disconnected and drive it about 50 miles. If the light dont come back on take it back for a reinspection. Most of the time it just depends on the inspector. Make sure your gas cap has clicked 3 or more times

That shouldn't make any difference. I've been able to pass emissions and inspection for the past 3 years with my Superchips... and I'm pretty sure we have stricter testing than in Texas. We can't even have dumped exhausts in PA.

... same here. I had my SC/SCT stacked the last time I had an inspection. You should pass with no problem here unless the computer is showing a CEL.

When I did the testing, it was PITA. You had to do a number of under the hood engine checks while the tailpipe tester was running. You had a lead test strip on the tailpipe using litmus paper during the tailpipe test. That was on top of the driving and brake test, checking parts of the vehicle from seat belts to DOT labels on the lens, and then checking that the headlights were aimed correctly. Now days, they just check to make sure all the light works and hook-up the computer to your vehicle. The computer does all the testing and gives you a pass/fail.

Well I changed out my EGR valve which was pretty easy, and had to disconnect the negative side of the battery now I was just wondering if that will take off my SC Tune. I hope not because my SC broke and I won't be able to put it back on. And I have never had a problem passing with the SC tune on before.

SC is not your problem. I passed 2 weeks ago with all the mods in my sig and that includes a 91 SC tune. I guarantee CA is the worst on this too. There is another thread on here ranting about their BS
