89 omni question

Would anyone who knows please contact me and advise. I have an 89 omni with the 704 aoto trans. Need to know (without major surgery) if I can make a 604 from an acclam work. Willing to have friend make adapter plate if needed. I was wondering if the axle inputs were different inside trans also? Thanks.
