Cancelling the Challenger For A New Cuda?

I read recenlty Dodge is thinking of stopping the Challenger because the Stang and Camaro are out selling it. They are thinking about bringing the Plymouth Barracuda out of mothballs to replace it. Anyone else hear anything on this?

Don't believe it............. Challenger production is UP, not down right now.

Sales are up but so are they for Ford and Chevy. Look at the numbers for 2011 from Motor Trend; Challenger 39,534 sold, Camaros 88249 and Mustnags 70,438.
To the marketing people these are disasterous numbers so wait and see. All three are searching for more HP and finding it. Mustang and Camaros also come in convertivble styles while Challenger does not.

I would have no problem with the re-birth of the Cuda (especiall y if it had a Viper motor in them.)

Brampton couldn't build 80,000 Challengers. They don't have the capacity with also running the 300's and Chargers.

But what I think is going to happen is the platform will be a direct Mustang/Camaro competitor. But under the Chrysler nameplate will be a non-retro styled luxury 2dr AWD coupe that is named Cuda; under the Lancia badge in Europe it will compete with other 2dr coupes like the A5 audi.
Under the Dodge name it will be a Challenger, it will go head on with the Mustang and Camaro, instead of being a bit too large to compete with them. The good thing about this situation is, Dodge can then take the current Challenger platform and turn it into an actual 2 dr Charger option. This will also satisfy the nay-saying "Charger should be a two door crowd."

I'm not sure about you guys, but I see more Challengers on the road than Camaro's or newer mustangs. Perhaps Challenger owners prefer to DRIVE their rides than to showcase them in a garage. hmmm

The way I read it is the Cuda will not be based on the 300, Charger, Challenger platform but rather be a new car. Alpar claims it'll be built in Belverdere not Canada. And I don't think it will be called a Dodge. They are splitting up the company to be: Chrysler, Jeep, Dodge, Ram, and SRT. The Cuda would be a SRT only vehicle like the Viper. I do not think they intend to build a schol teacher version, only the 6.2 L blown model.

Quite the opposite here. I see 4-5 times the crumaros and rustangs.

But i cant be held for the poor choices others make. And a yellow camaro is becoming the new cavalier here. See one at every other stop light.

At my local track, if there are 30 camaros and mustangs, there are five challengers or chargers.

thats why I love being a Mopar guy..we are different and our whips kick some serious @ss

I don't get the thinking from Chrysler on perfromance cars and trucks. The Stang and Camaro ar supercars while the FOUR DOOR Charger and very heavy Challenger are quick but can't beat them in racing the 1/4 mi.
Come in second place to the Ford Lightnong truck then cancel the SRT truck all together.
Secondly, again the Viper while being a very impressive beast still cannot surpass the top of the line Corvette.
Someone in the performance class Monday morning meetings is saying "second best will be our all over approach to competition vehicles". Shame on them.

1) The Challenger isn't in the same class as the Mustang and Camaro. It's a larger coupe, not a "pony car" or "sport specialty". The Challenger is essentially in the class the Charger was in during the '60's and '70's.

2) Challenger just had an all-time record sales month in May 2012.

3) Challenger production is limited to a percentage of total production at the Brampton plant, and Chrysler sells every one it builds with very little incentives.

4) Challenger has the highest resale value of any Chrysler product besides the Viper.

Given these facts, I don't believe the car will be dropped. Sergio Marchionne has a habit of "floating" ideas or concepts to test the waters, and we may eventually see a Barracuda, but I doubt the Challenger will be replaced entirely.

This is very true. Around here on the local dealer auctions, these things go at wholesale price around $28k with under 5k miles on them. That's practically the price of a new one.

Not so with my Chally R/T. I've beaten plenty of 'Stangs and Bowties at our local track. My best 1/4 mile to date is 13.5/106 with my "heavy" Chally...
