This how-to will show you how to replace or swap your exterior mirror assembly. 2009 + RAM 1500
Step 1: Open your door and roll the window down (this will be for later) Step 2: Pull of the mirror bolt cap the meets up with the instrument panel. Step 3: Take out the 6 plastic torx screws around the door panel and the plastic nuts they go into. Torx-20 Step 4: Use a knife or something similar to pry open from the front, the access door behind interior door handle. Step 5: Take out the philips head screw by pulling the door handle back as if opening the door. Step 6: Pry of the cover from front to back. Step 7: Lift the door panel up over the door lock pin, and pull towards you to gain access to the window controls. Reach your hand over the door panel and pop the controller up through the bottom of the panel. Set the panel back on the door. Step 8: Disconnect the two plugs from the window/mirror controller and then pull the panel back up and out and set it somweher safe. Step 9: Follow the wire that runs from the outside mirror to the door controller and unplug the two connections. Step 10: Pull the push pin that holds the wire to the vapor barrier out. Step 11: Unbolt the three bolts that hold the mirror to the door using a 10mm socket, support the mirror with your other hand in case it wants to fall. (This is why the window is down) Step 12: Carefully pull the mirror away from the door, it has a steel push pin that helps hold it so some force may be required. Step 13: Clean any debris from the area and insert your new/replacement mirror wires through the original wire hole. Pull it through and insert your mirror bolts into the slots provided and while still supporting it, put a couple of the nuts back on the bolts. Pull back the rubber at the very front of the door if you haven't already done so to put the third bolt back on. Tighten these bolts back up and then put everything back together in reverse.
