Switching out tunes

Ever since I got my SCT Tuner I have run it on the 93 tune, Lately been wanting to try out the 87 tune and see how that is, My fear is that by switching down to that level its going to ping or something worse possible? Is it in my head or is it safe to just run all the 93 out and fill up with 87 and load up the 87 tune? And my guess is that this 87 tune is the economy tune to get better gas mileage? Any how it be nice to hear what you have to say, Thanks

My understanding is your fears are the oposite of what will happen. You should run the gas or higher for the tune you are putting in. If you run the 93 tune with 87 gas you run the risk of pinging because the timing will not advance correctly. There should not be any problem with going the oposite (87 tune 93 gas).
Personnaly I don't think you will see any issues except at WOT.

You wont see problems anywere. I used to run the performance tune with 91 octane and it was fine. Then i switched it to the 89 octane tune and ran the rest of my 91 octane tank and no problems at all. Then i loaded it up with the 89 octane and all was well still.
This was my old truck though. 3.9l

Yeah you won't have any problems, but with the experience that I've had with different tunes I figured out that If I ran 87 octane on the 87 tune I got about 13-15 mpg, I figured out though that when I run 93 octane on my 87 tune I get better gas mileage because it burns more efficiently, If I drive like I always do I can get 15-17 mpg average.

Dartboy is the 87 octane tune still better than running a stock tune? I have ran a tow tune and a performance tune and both of those are night and day difference above stock. But my 89* octane tune is not much different than stock as far as i can tell. But have not yet tried it on my r/t

I can tell power difference big time with the performance tune when i roll on the throttle at about 30 mph but other than that ya i just burn the tires too
