The last time I changed my oil I went ahead and used signature series amsoil because everyone says its so much better than my beloved M1. Well after 5k miles I drained it and it's the cleanest dirty oil I've ever seen! I think Next change I'll use it again and run it for 7500-10k

hows that castrol edge? I am thinking of going back to amsoil, I got the most mpg with it and the motor ran so quietly. I have used m1 and rp and the damn truck was noisey, I have valvoline now and its pretty good too. So I am convinced amsoil was the best so far.

The castrol is fine right now, the real test will be when I drain it in 5k. When I drained my diff oil it was pretty clean also, but it was M1. I can't remember how many mile I put on it though, at least 15k if not 20-25K

I have noticed that some oils are just darker when you drain them, I cant say that the color of the oil is the main factor in its superiority but if your oil is dark maybe that indicates its holding onto the dirt vs clean oil that isn't. Then again maybe clean oil indicates a cleaner running engine vs darker oil that might not be..... kinda like the chicken and the egg i guess. Short of getting a blackstone report I guess I will never know.
I have been thinking of changing all my fluids -engine to Amsoil (front rear diff, trans and transfer) but I just havnt decided. I like to read these threads to see what others think and most seem to like Amsoil.

Engine oil by nature (and design) is supposed to get dirty (colored) with use. If it does not, it is not picking up and holding in suspension the combustion by-products etc.
So if you have oil that is still "clean" after some use, just what is it doing with these contaminates?

How the "clean" the oil looks is relative.
Amsoil is typically totally clear with almost no yellow or amber color at all. My new clients almost always comment that couldn't SEE the oil on the dipstick when they first put it in....after 3-4K miles it is just getting dark enough to look like regular dino oil when it comes out of the bottle. I swear by it. My customer base swears by it: 235,000 miles: GMC Sonoma 4 cylinder: 25K mile oil changes ONLY. 175,000 miles: 1998 Chevy Prism 1.8L - 20K mile il changes 167,000 miles: 1993 Ford Lighting 351w - 15K mile oil changes 217,000 miles: 1997 Jeep Cherokee 4.0L - 20K mile oil changes. I will never say that other oils aren't good, just that you can't get the reliable extended drain interval out of them like you can Amsoil. I personally run the 0W-20 Amsoil in my Dak with a BMK-13 bypass kit, along with the Universal ATF in the trans and power steering system, with 75w-110 Severe Gear in rear diff.

I use Mobil 1 synthetic 5W20 and it works awesome. I change mine about every 5,000 miles or so.
Gotta keep it clean for the blower. |

Me to.
I used AMSoil the first oil change and the oil was pretty clean. Then mobile 1 the next two times. I will never use mobile one again. I tried RP in my 4genGT eclipse, mobile 1, and AMSoil and I love amsoil by far the best. It even out performed the german oils I was using in my MKV GTI. I am die hard amsoil fan |

I use Nippon Motor Oil(ENEOS) 0W-20 and use the synthetic ATF thats my favorite brand out. I used it for all my cars and trucks! Amsoil is great too, most my friends use us M1.

I've been using the Amsoil XL line for the longest time. This spring I decided to step up to the Signature 0W30. So far I have 8000kms on it in my 5.9L Dodge and am about to add another half a quart today just to bring it up a bit. With any luck I won't have to change the oil out until late spring. Winter can be hard if the temps drop below 50C. Starting without a block heater is no feat when running Amsoil. Even my older Ford Taurus loves the stuff. I plan to throw Amsoil ATF into the trans as well this spring as a service will be due.
You know, I've never tried Mobil1, and probably never will. It's not worth the cost of what I can get Amsoil products for at the dealer level.
