Hey everybody. I've got a 98 1500 5.2 auto swb that really is a beater. I'v been looking on some other forums about lowering it and general hoolaganisim (I like smokey doughnuts) and so far all I have been able to find is about how to lift it instead of lower it.
I've got a friend like me who has a 95 Dakota and a 08 Charger RT He is thinking about some new wheels for his charger and giving me the chrome 20" wheels that came on it. Anyone tried it? I want to lower, lighten and up the hp a little. (might even give drifting a try)

how low? fo rthe front you can get spindles and/or springs for 2"-6" drop, rearyou can get 2" drop shackles and flip the front hangers for about 4" or do a flip kit for about 6

need adapters for the wheels

Probably 3 in the front and four in the rear. I guess I'll have to get some other wheels and tires.

Welcome to DT. Don't know anything about lowering. That's the wrong direction for me. Good luck on it though.

Hey Welcome to DT

4 in the rear is easy just flip the axle. All you need are some axle perches and new u-bolts. That is an easy 4"

3 in the front is the hard part. You can go 2" with just springs but it rides like crap. You would be better off going with drop spindles or drop lower control arms. Check ebay they have the control arms on for cheap once in a while. I know I got my uppers for $75.

Glad you enjoyed the photos if you have any questions don't hesitate to ask.

As for the tires you would have to get wheel spacers to go from 5x139mm to 5x115mm might be a hard find.

Plus I am sure the back spacing on the charger is completly different. But that come in your favor. If the wheel are positively spaced then you would need spacers to get the wheel in the correct place. If the wheel are free why not find a way to make them work.

I got mine from a trailer parts store, I would think most places that repair or build trailers will have some. They are cheap $5 at the most.

if youre drifting youre gonna want the back end about level with the front, a higher back end is gonna want to throw over too hard and youre gonna have no control. try for a 3/5, i did a 3/5 performance drop in mine and it handles like a sports car, its coils and a flip/shackel with nitro performance shocks, i like the 3" drop coils up front for the sake of getting some good aggressive camber, but the back end is still too light for good control. best to put a diff locker in or a really aggressive LSD and bolt some weight down. as for pony, 318s will give you no shortage of that if you treat em right, find the right setup for parts and tuning and you could have a torque monster thatll get sideways like nobodys buisness. i went from being into tuners to getting into muscle, not being able to afford muscle i got the smallest full size pickup i could find and now im finding the best of both worlds, i love my nasty huge torque numbers from my v8 but i love the modern performance of my 2nd gen, throw high performance suspension in the mix and some good running gear and its a happy medium that would keep any enthusiast happy. anyways hope that helps, welcome to the forum, and good luck with your bomber!

They look the same but instead of bolt locking just weld it. This way you know it is not going to move. Even the bolt locks ones move a little.
