Are you really taxing the alternator that much? There were two options for the D a 136amp and a HO 160amp. I think the 160amp came with the heavy duty service group. 136amp is 1632watts and 160/1920. Im not sure the pull on the electrical system but i would assume its somewhere around 40-70amps running normal lights, a/c, etc. Now your amp is not going to pull that much juice because you don't run it full bore all the time. And honestly I don't see it pulling 83.33 amps without melting itself. That's a lot of amperage. Also, the alternator doesn't handle those spikes it's the batteries reserve capacity that does it. Buy an Optima battery, they are great, expensive but great.
Hope this helps.

fosgate amps dont have on board fuses. i have a lanzar 120farad capaitor and it rates voltage and amperage so i wil have to go check what im pulling....
crutchfield recommends running a 140amp fuse in line to the amp http://www.crutchfield.com/p_5751000...bd.html?tp=115

Have you seen 140amps at 12V? That's insane. I don't think it'll pull more than 50. I had an 800w sub amp at 2ohm, 400w 4channel, and the head unit on a 30amp fuse and 8awg wire and could hit hard enough to skip the cd player.

chester, my MTX T81000D will pull "well over 150A @ 14.4V" quite easy and it require 1/0 Gauge power and ground wire. I was supposed to run a 200A fuse..
I was setting up for a DB drag on my old Neon.. my alt put out 106A, and I killed the batt (450CA) in 5min.. I did it once in 15min with the 450Ca and a 1100CCA 145min reserve time battery in the trunk.. with the car running.. with both batts and the stereo turned up the car would pulse.. like my ignition system wasn't getting enough juice when the subs fired. Twas great fun :P I wonder if I have the 160A on my D... HmMMM

If you want to lower your power usage swap all your lights to HID.. they'll use 20W less per bulb.. then you can swap most of your signals and what not to LED that'll drop them my a few watts(markers) and upto 20W again for signals/brakes per bulb.

160 amp alternator is part of the Heavy Duty Service Group, which is included with the Trailer Tow Group, at least on the 06 models.

Well stock Halogens are 55W/65W(highbeam) and the HID ballasts are only 35W, sure it peaks a little higher than that for the first second or so when they turn on.. but yeah.. you can get 55W HIDs, but for headlights and what not, not really worth it.. I might slap some 55W'ers in some "offroad" lights if/when I get a push bar.

Did you do the big three and have you considered running two or more batteries?
