I'm starting to think I'm losing a u-joint. At first, I thougth the vibration I felt around 40 and 70 mph (that's when it's at it's worst) was just an off balance tire...had all four rotated and balanced and it's still there...then I realized this morning I'm getting a little clunk when changing from Reverse to Drive and it feels like my drive line is getting a little slop in it...classic u-joint problems.

My question is...how hard are they to change? As many things as I've done, I've never done u-joints on a vehicle...honestly never had to. Any advice would be nice fellas.

Thanks.

While that sucks...it's pretty funny. What did they charge you to replace them?

Oh, and Shelby, it's 48 right now, but there's a nice north "breeze." Not to mention it's been raining for the past four days...I also graduated from the academy today so I'm having some celebratory drinks

I had a u-joint go out on me while on the dyno. A few sparks and some loud bangs later, my driveshaft was laying on the ground under the truck bent in the shape of an "L"...haha. I even got a video of it happening

They are cheap enough to replace that I wouldnt take the chance.

Depending on where you live, U-Joints can be easy, or horrible. Here in WI, they suck to do, tons of hammering. I plan on replacing my driveshaft at 60000 miles under Powertrain warranty so i dont have to change them.

When mine went out, I bought a complete driveshaft with yoke and new u-joints for right at $200 from the local dealer. I'm sure someone like Henson or Archer could get one even cheaper.

Thanks for all the info guys...about to watch that vid Matt.

I just realized my driveshaft and joints are covered...I might try to press some other stuff in on the $100 deductible and it just so happens I have someone on the inside at the local stealership . Maybe I can press for a whole bunch of new shit.

Hey Shelby, I was just in the garage working on my RC truck with the garage open...it was.....brisk, but very nice.

HAd mine done under warranty also. Only cost my $50 bucks. But seeing that video makes me want to get a driveshaft loop for extra precaution.
