long arm kit

I just picked up a 2001 ram 1500 with probably a 8-10" lift and the control arms are a 2 into 1 design that tie into the lower arm mount on the frame. I believe its a superlift setup. But I am going to make a new upper arm back to the factory frame mount and I was wondering how long the lower control arm should be? If anyone has a long arm kit would you mind telling me what size lift you have and the lengths of your control arms? Thank you very much.

If you have the two into one set up it is probably a 6" lift possible a 7". I would not change the mounting if you are keeping that much lift unless you go with a long arm kit. The long arm relocates both mounting points.
These pics are after install before adjusting and leveling the axle out. Also if you had more than 7" lift the front drive shaft would not be able to be installed without the transfercase clocker or lowered.

The previous owner lower the transmission mount for better driveline angles front and rear. I was thinking about putting the upper arm in the factory frame mount and making a longer lower arm. I'm not positive what lift is on it because it has a spring with a 2" spacer on it and a 3" body lift with a 6" spring and block in the rear. I like your design but wouldn't the upper arm hit the frame when you articulate? The only reason I want to change this is because my caster angle is too far forward even with the cam adjusted.

It would only hit the frame if the springs or axle fell out. The factory mounts are cut what you are seeing in the pic is the nerf bar mounts and it is off to the side. The problem in lowering the transfercase it makes the front angles worse thats why it needs clocked. Take a picture of your front output shaft and we can tell. I understand what you are asking in your first post but a short arm is when the control arms are mounted in there original position no matter if they are longer than stock. Over 6" short arm will not work on the road very good at all. You have to keep the arms level hence why they are moved back and the arms are longer which is a long arm set up.
It is important to know what you have before making plans. Take a minute and take a pic of your control arms at both axle and rear frame, transfercase output on front, track bar from front and your springs and pitman. Sounds dumb but if you want to not waste money like most of us have done on here take em and post them.

For some reason its not allowing me to post pictures. Ill try from another computer later. I am in the process of making an aftermarket track bar setup because even with the aftermarket track bar bracket the the angle of the tie rod is too steep and keeps busting so I'm just going to make one with adjustable heims. I also need a larger drop pitman arm. It looks like the stock pitman arm but with a reverse taper. But I do like your design so I will probably make a set of those. What size lift do you have and what is the eye to eye length on your control arms? Thank you for your help.

Well I am only running 6" lift now was 8" up till a few months ago. That pitman arm with the reverse taper maxes out at about 5" lift you need a extreme drop pitman which is the one I have.

I stopped by a local shop earlier today he says a have a total of 8" suspension and 3" body. I guess he used to have the exact same truck. So he's going to order me a power steering box support bracket and all the heims and tubing I will need for my control arms and track bar. I'm hoping to get the track bar done this weekend. Then ill get that extreme drop arm.

Wasn't your truck a lot bigger? Last I checked I thought you were putting it up on 46's?

??? The first picture is mine and it is the normal two into two. My kit is Rock Krawler (aka Pure Performance) and almost the same one topgunsells. They can get you what you need and it is adjustable for like 3-4 inches of lift.

i was finally able to upload the pictures you asked for. i designed a radius arm style upper and lower with both being fully adjustable. lower arm with those currie joints and upper with heims. right now it is the superlift 5 inch kit with a 2 inch spacer which i am going to take the whole lift off and sell, track bar bracket and all. and use my 7" skyjacker coils with the new design long arms.

Sounds like a plan but check ut top gun's progressive rate springs before you buy I wish I had used them. I also agree need long arm set up.

I already have the springs. They were the 7" softrides i bought a few years back for my first dodge but never used them. I'll run them for now and get all the suspension set right and see how i like them and then go from there, but as usual, you're probably right. lol. Are you running a dual or single shock?

I like biggreenv10's setup a lot more than the ones top gun has. I'm making my own for right around $400 and that's with 8' of 2" DOM, 4 ballistic joints and 4 heim joints with misalignment shims.

Top gun makes em for the 1500 http://www.topguncustomz.com/Store/G...view=260829602 I like these because you can't see in the picture they are curved in the area of the tire scrub for more tire clearance to keep from rubbing. They are a decent design hell if you get a set of these I will trade ya. Anyway topgun has em tube style and can get the ones you want just don't list them http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-5-08-Dodge...item5ae5e3532f
