I have this 2000 caravan sport that is relatively new to me. I had squeaks from the hatch that I fixed. Now I have a tug, tug noise from the rear passenger side whenever I go over the smallest road imperfections...driving me nuts.
I ripped the whole plastic lining of the hatch and everything is tight. It seems it is from the wheel area. To the suspension shop and everything checks OK. WD-40 on the bushings including the sway bar and nothing. You can jump up and down on the rear and no noise whatsoever, only when you drive.
Wanna see if anybody has had similar noise? Any help on where to start or how to troubleshoot?
THANKS

No it is not the exhaust. Tight as it could be.

if all else fails, turn up the stereo; get one of those sub-woofers - it will mask about anything

I already have the Infinity system and it does a nice job on dampening every noise. If you haven't figured it already I am anal about these stuff, so as long as "I know" the noise is there it bothers me!!

I've been trying to track down a similar noise in that same area on my 2000 T&C. I elimated the usual suspects, spare tire, rear hatch, etc. I know how the that rattling can drive you nuts!

I can actually faintly hear the noise when bouncing the tail gate with hatch open.

I suspect the noise is related to the right rear shock absorber. I replaced both sides a few months ago and the noise started a few weeks later. Please let me know how you make out and I will do same.

My sympathies goes out to you. I have tried the hatch open thing and you can hear it better in mine too. That made my mechanic recomend that I change the hatch supports. Now $70 poorer and the same noise. You shock story is a good clue because I am suspicious of the shock mount bushings, either havind a crack or just being loose. Have yours rechecked where they did the shocks. My life is booked for another week so next week I might leave it at the mechanics and have him go at it.

Just FYI.\
Even though jumping up and down on the back of the car wouldn't recreate the noise and three shops said the suspension is as good as new we took the shocks out and noise gone. $220 later I have new rear shocks and no more noise.

Thanks for the update. Now that it's colder the rattling seems worse so I can't put it off any more. Looks like I'll have to replace the shocks although they are only a few months old. I will try replaceing the bushings first.

Does anyone know where I can get the bushings? Do places like autozone or NAPA have them?

Did some looking, looks like either NAPA or the dealer...try one of our supporters, maybe one of them can help.

Update, Well I changed the shocks and all is well. They were Gabriel Ultras and apparrently went bad after just ten months. Autozone was great about replacing them under lifetime warranty. Thanks to all for your responses.

$220 for rear shocks ?? Sounds pretty pricey to me , but glad it fix your problem . If those were the original they were overdue anyway . I would check the front struts while you are at it 7 years is pretty good life for struts ...

Well I only had 60KM, but now I have noticed some front squeeks too. By the way the $220 included the one hour labour for the diagnosis. It might not be fair to charge that since he did the repair but then again he probably worked more than that to figure it out.
