I want a low tone, low drone nice grumble.....I also think I'm just gonna do a direct replacement of the stock muffler, no duals, no bigger pipe just straight swap and leave the resonator on. Which exhaust should I go with?

I could always load my mufflers with some cheese though...I hear cheddar give off a great sound

People here will knock Flowmaster to no end. I have used them for decades and have had zero issues ever with them. A 40 or 50 series on a Hemi sounds good. I had a 3 chamber on my old Ram which was a 4.7 engine. It sounded perfect. IMHO it was the nicest sounding Ram around. Many will say if you don't spend at least $250.00 on installing a muffler you will have junk. I say anyone who spends $250.00 on a muffler is nuts. My son went with a 2 chamber and dumps it at the muffler on his '07 Hemi. Sounds terrible. Don't do that.

Okay, now all the anti-Flowmaster folks can start flaming.

I have the 4.7 and did a direct replacement with a magnaflow muffler and it sounds great. I can barely hear it at 60 but sounds loud and deep like any flowmaster on acceleration and low cruising speeds. Hope that helps! Oh by the way there is a guy on here looking to buy a hemi stock muffler, his user name is Krs

Borla

Borla all the way! I will tell you it is NOT loud, just has a really deep mellow rumble and growls with power when you gas it. I have nothing but compliments on the sound of my 09. Flowmasters are full of constant road rumble when you don't want it, that is why flows are knocked to no end.

I have a magnaflow 5x11x22. It sounds like you are describing. You can hardly hear it at 65. But if you get on it you can, sounds fricking sweet at 3000RPM. But I have mine dumbed under the box with no resonator. I think my setup makes it sound louder then it actually is. You may want a 5x6x24 if you want the resonators on.

Borla is also very good. It was very pricy when I compaired it too magnaflow, could be different now.

Side story: This weekend the wife and I were on a road trip to a wedding in Columbus NE. We got stuck behind a JackASS pulling a gooseneck trailer 45mph on a 60mph 2 lane road. Not a huge deal, except it was hilly and the dumb$hit was hogging the center lane. All in all I couldnt see around him to pass, and when I could I was in a no passing zone. So finally we get to a part in the road when the slower lane had a 3rd lane to go into, so I follow the guy for about a half mile cursing him thinking he will change lanes at some point, he knew I was back there. Well, he doesnt get over, so finally I just hammer it and pass him in the lane the slow traffic is suppose to be in. When I got on it the RPMs jumped to about 3000 (it sounded f-ing AWESOME)and my truck firmly planted us in our seats. When I got done with the pass my wife looked at me and said, "That made me a little wet. That was the coolest thing I've seen and heard your truck do." That was the best thing my wife has ever said about my truck, and when we got to Colombus she proved it. ;)

Best compliment I have heard about the Rams. There is a thread, I don't know if you hit that one up yet, definately one that needs to be there.

As for mufflers, I have true dual set up starting at my Magnaflow perf cats ==> E-cutouts ===> dual pipes ===> Cherry Bomb Extreme 2.5" si/so ===> 3" tips.

With the stock cats it was loud as hell. I could be literally heard from a mile away. With the Mag cats it is now a very deep very nice rumble. As soon as I can get my e-cutouts fixed/stop leaking I can post a video my set up. At the moment it doesn't sound as good as it should.

When I first got my truck I put Flowmasters on it. Sounded decent, but it wasn't quite what I was expecting or wanting. In retrospect I wish I had bought Magnaflow instead. A buddy of mine has an 07/08 Ram with a single Magnaflow on his truck. Very nice, probably closer to what you want for a quick and cheap swap.

I just had a Magnaflow 22 or 24 installed.Think he said a 24.I just did a quick semi measurment with my hand etc. There XL series.Pipes exit behind both rear wheels. Not all that crazy about it.Too loud.On the highway its ok but lower speeds at least to me its LOUD.Don't think I'll live with it too long. The shop that did it specializes in restro autos/trucks and does really nice work.I'm going to talk to him in the next few days for another suggestion.Could not imagine using a 14 or 18 inch on a Hemi. Can hear MDS cut n and out and every downshift and such.

I sure have enjoyed my VORTEX by Cherry Bomb.

I get compliments and asked all the time what kind of muffler i have.

3 years ago I put it on and was told on this forum they were junk and they would not last. Well.............. Its still kicking and I still love the sound.

Yes the resonator is still there. Just had the guy weld in the new muffler in place of the stock one. After a trip out tonight I am very pleased with the sound of the muffler. I was looking for a nice low end growl and didn't want the Flowmaster sound. Well I think the Borla does this perfectly, nice deep rumble at start up and when you hit the throttle. I only get a little drone when the MDS kicks in but not bad at all. Overall I am very pleased. Now on to intake and if only Mopar would release theirs.

Using the resonator I'm sure changes the tone of any muffler.Wonder what you'd think of Borla with out the factory resonator.

#21 ·
i have a flowmaster 40 series on mine with no resonators (duals) and absolutely love it. it's loud but in a muscle car way, very throaty and deep...and when the gas is smashed people will look. When MDS kicks in... you can't tell, well i can't. we were just at the chrysler nationals in carlisle and while on the dyno ALOT of people were commenting on it

#22 ·
what kind of numbers did you post on the dyno

Well, are you confuse yet on which muffler? I will tell you that I had the Flowmaster which was good and now I have Magnaflow which I like a little better but thats me. I got the one that have the built in X pipe and I do like how it sound.

Go to the frig..load up on several kinds of cheeze,go to Flowmasters site and when ya click onto each muffler to hear them, stuff some cheeze(or cheese) in yer ear and then with some ham.....I remember putting limburger cheese on an wedding couple s 47 Hudson uner the seat heater...and my easy going Dad kickin my ass for what seemed like 3 days !

I had Borla on my last Hemi and really loved the sound. But I'm going Magnaflow this round. Soon as my knee and such recoup from the wreck, and I'm able to actually drive my new truck... that'll be one of the first stops my truck makes. :)

I want to mod a Gibson Super Truck side exit exhaust to fit on mine. It's the style that exits in front of the rear tire with retangular tips.
