ahha ya i got a regular cab short box 318, honestly if you are lookin to bag something i would go with 318 they are a solider motor and you rarely hear of any troubles, and for the record when do a 0-60 test mine shifts at about 5100
97 318 SLT Laramie, short bed reg cab, with 109,000 + miles.
Pretty fast now...was kinda slow when stock.
Good power in the mud, and i get 15-16 on the highway.
99 318 here with less than 60k mi. I wanted the reg cab, short bed and the 360 but they were hard to find. Got a killer deal on a low mi 99 with the 318 so I jumped on it. Happy with it.

They all work together, but the basics would be headers, magnaflow exhaust, air hat, and gears. If I had street tires I would be doing a LOT better. Even though the 33" BFG Mud Terrains I run on the street are worn, they are still really heavy. If I run the swampers (35") then mileage drops to about 12 highway, 8-9 city...plus it feels like I am riding on stop signs.
Start with the headers, should run about $220 depending on what brand you get.
The magnaflow setup can be had for $150 shipped from hottexhaust.com
The Edelbrock air hat is about $25-$30.
Gear will be the most expensive upgrade (to have done), depending on where you live.
I already got a new cat with the recall, and I have Flowmaster 40, I may do the headers and see if that helps. Will a drop in K&N do much for MPG? I may get the entire CAI system if it helps significantly, even by 1-2 mpg, it will pay for it over the long run with my 60+ mile per day commute.

I have a 360 and I wouldnt have it any other way. 20.3MPG @ 70mph. I was around 14-15 until I replaced the plenum gasket. I dont drive it to town so I wouldnt know my city mileage.
3" Straight pipes, "Cat", MIL eliminator, 52MM TB, 4" Open element air cleaner, MSD 6A ignition, Accel 9mm wires, Splitfire Platinum plugs.
I got 3.73's and dont mind the extra mileage one bit.
Pretty Happy with my 318 so far. Just under 270K , No rebuild, And has plowed or pulled a trailer most days of it's life. Still uses only a 1/2 quart of amsoil in 5000 miles. Runs better than the my friends 04 2500HD chevy with just under 100K under the same conditions.
360 and it just turned 170K, Still strong as an ox, uh I mean RAM Even though its a Durango! I think they are both good motors, I just opted for the 360 because the gas mileage was just about the same and the price diff was only about $500. Since I was spending about $27K at the time I sure as hell wasn't going to worry about $500 for a bigger engine!
01 quad cab 2wd 360 power i get about 15.5 at 75 mph i love the power my 360 has especially after u pass 2800 rpms
