the other thing I noticed is: my van (hood at least) is a rock chip magnet

Yep me too. My '94 hood is a mess too...I guess it's because the van hood sits up more than a car or pickup hood. I'd like to add one of those bug/stone deflectors one day.

My hood is fine, but it is chipped all around the driver's door.
I noticed it chipping under the hinges on the forward side door.

My paint is doing the same thing especially on the A-pillars, however I just attribute it to age. But your 2000 van shouldn't be doing this....bad quailty control, C'mon Chrysler get it right!!!
