yikes

got out the goods to clean her up today after our Michigan winter and noticed some problems

like peeling paint

and clear coat peeling away

this is not good .... this van is a 2000 = I don't think it should be having this kinda prob ...

Anyone else having some paint issues, or did I just get the luck of the draw

in the top pic

that long white mark above the black window is clear coat that looks like it has bubbled up

hard to tell in the pic = but if you touch it, it crumbles up like ... dried up varnish and flakes off

My '94 has started to do that on the fiberglass high-top. Some of my paint and clear coat along the A-pillar and drip rails has started to peel. My van has 130,000 miles and is 13 years old so yeah, this shouldn't be happening to your van. I hope repaint my van at some point.

The way it is peeling around the windows I would say that side has been repainted at some point with the windows in. The drip rail was common on the dodges. Its the paint that didn't adhere to the sealer that they put along there

Don't know about the 2000's but I had a 97 and there was no clearcoat on that gen van , strictly the old lacquer finish . Everytime you waxed it you would get some of the paint comeing off . You had to wax these to keep from having paint problems . Yes it was a huge job to do this but I never had any paint type problems in the 7 years I had the van, sure do miss the van but do not miss the $80 fillups it would be now .

I happened to look at the drip rails on mine yesterday and noticed the same exact peeling starting.
This van has only been privately owned(titled) for less than two years.
I will be contacting DC to see if they will do anything about it.
I won't hold my breath.
Chips around the door they can blame on me, but peeling up top is not my doing.

I went to the dealer with it yesterday.
They are going to repaint the affected areas under my van's warranty.
I may see how much more it will cost to paint the whole works.
I don't know if I can swing that though.
They could have gotten it in today or Monday, but I really hadn't made any plans to be without it for a few days, so it is on hold.

I am pleasantly surprised with how they are handling the problem.

It is too bad the previous owner of your van didn't catch the roof rail thing within warranty because I would be willing to bet yours did it about as early as mine.

My advise is for you to take it to your dealer, but at 6 years old.....even though the paint should not do that.....they may tell you tough luck.

The paint on my Chevy that I traded in was shiny and adhering to the sealer.
It was just starting to get some rust at the bottom edges of the side doors.

There really is no excuse for the paint being so thin on these vans.
It seems anywhere they have upgraded an assembly line, the paint looks to be one of those things fixed.
I don't see '02 and up Rams peeling or any of the last versions of the LH cars.
I have never seen a peely PT Cruiser either.

I forgot to add....Mine also it flaking around the side door hinge. I also noticed what looked like fisheyes where it is starting to peel on the pass side, so that would verify the paint not adhering to the sealer.
