Hear is the deal I was by myself with my new camera and decided to do a little burn out and capture the sound of the exhaust for everyone. My shifting is slow as hell becouse I was holding on to the open door with my cam in hand, (imagine that) anyways I was steering and shifting with the same hand. If you wonder why it has no picture is becouse the cam was face down in my hand at night! It's a good sound clip tho I think.
I just wish I had had someone there so I coulda really got into a good burn out for yuns. Oh well I wont spin like that now Im back on the 16's LMAO.

ENJOY!Hope this works.....later

I still want to know how the heck you're able to break them lose in second like theres oil on the road... We both have the same mods, and even with my cheap Dayton's on I still only chirp them in second. Granted, its a really long chirp, but nothing like the spinning clearly heard on your video/sound clip... It almost sounded like you revved it up before dumping the clutch out in 2nd. You should have someone go along and video tape your tachometer... I want to see what your engine is doing during all of this. After all, basically the only differences between our cars is you have a mopar PCM (doubtful it gives you enough extra hp to explain the spinning), and the 3.94:1 transmission, where i have a SOHC 3.55:1 ratio trans. Would the gearing make that much difference?

BTW... I agree, your engine does sound healthy, but i still think mines louder :D

LOL Rice_Eater! I told you my car was a freak! I never soaked the road down with oil if you are wondering LOL. If you listen close after the shift to third it spins up to about 4-5ooo rpms before I let off. So technically I spun in 1st,2nd and 3rd.
Normally it will only chirp in third like you say yours does in second. It was running fairly well that night LOL. peace man.

WHY THE HECK WONT MY CAR DO THAT!?!?!?!?!?! LOL You say you cant spin them like that with the 16's? how good is your tread on the 14" tires? LOL are they bald? I can spin all the way through 2nd and into 3rd, but only when the roads are damp.... LOL I have a feeling its the gearing that is the difference in our two cars... 3.55's suck!

Um I dunno! But im sure the honda I smoked out the other day was wondering the same thing.LMAO seriously tho I never really tried to smoke the 16's in any gear! They cost to much. I did spin them thru 2nd tho once. ;) They spun in second about like the 14's did in third on the video. :rck:

Rice ur car may be louder but I guarantee u don't gain as much hp from ut setup compared to a proper muffler cat back. Tx used the srt4 catback and reported loss of power. I guarantee urs is the same. I think now ur torque low down would especialy be lacking.

I've gotta set you straight on what TX said... Since he was using the "butt dyno" to measure power, he wasnt really measuring power, he was measuring torque. You cannot measure horsepower on the butt dyno, which is why your neon feels like it pulls less after 5500-6000rpm or so (sound familiar?) but is actually accelerating faster - torque falls off after that point so you dont feel the "pull" anymore. And since horsepower, not torque, is what gets you across the finish line first at the dragstrip, the butt dyno is not an accurate representation of how fast a car is. It holds some truth, but is not nearly 100% accurate. You may feel slower because you lost some low end grunt to get you going, yet actually come across the line with a faster time.

Another important thing to point out is that TX has an ATX, meaning his engine is operating at lower revs, and stays in them MUCH longer than with a manual trans. This makes the loss of low end torque even more noticable on his car. I will admit, I lost a bit below 4k rpm, but once i hit 4500rpm, hold on. Theres still PLENTY of power, and though i wont claim insane gains of 5-10HP :D , I'd say the butt dyno is telling my i've picked up more than a couple lb/ft from 5000rpm on up. The engine doesnt lag in the last 200-300 rpm at the tops of 2nd and 3rd gear anymore, it pulls strong and hard.

BTW ACR98--- Speaking of torque... I pushed a few buttons on the ol' calculator today. As it turns out the 3.94:1 ratio trans that you have puts out 10% more torque in gears 1-4 than my 3.55 ratio (SOHC) transmission. And since you have the 0.81:1 5th gear as well, you have roughly 20% more torque than me in 5th.... Lucky sonofagun.

Yeah... I was really bummed at first when i saw the numbers, wishing i had the right transmission. But then my thoughts turned the the Wet Nitrous Kit i want to install in the upcoming year if i can afford it and learn enough about it to feel comfortable using it without fear of an... "incident". Even a measly 35 shot will put me well and beyond your hp and torque outputs in every gear, except maybe 1st. And thats only because the tires wont hold it, LOL. Too bad your wife is against forced induction... :D If i ever do get the spray, I will try to make video of a few passes for ya.

Do you have any idea what you run in the 1/4 mile? I dont have access to a track (nearest one is a 2+ hour drive), and I'm not about to go measure and mark a public road LOL, but I plan to clock my 0-60 and 0-100 times by stopwatch and speedometer. I know it wont be entirely accurate, but it will give me a rough idea and allow me to estimate what i could potentially run in the 1/4 mile.

I have no clue Rice!!!! Wish I had a track close too tho! I am pretty sure that I could do 0-60 in less than 7 but I could be wrong! I never really tried to time it. All I know is I beat the piss out of about every car that tries to race me. If I cant loose them I normally can keep them from passing. Or if a quick car gets in front of me on the interstate I can stay with it. Atleast I have so far. That last car was no more than 1 car lenght in front of me when I hit 6500 rpms in fifth roughly 142 mph I was gaining on it and then he slowed down. Just as well my exit was only 300 yrds away. He wasnt going no where!!!!!! lol I may try to use my camera on video mode to capture my speedo going from 0-60 and time it that way. That way I can focus on my shifts and things and worry about the time later. Sounds safer to me that way. LOL later

Time sounds about right. I do 0-60 mph in about 7.6 seconds with my sohc.
I have made afew people mad in their big powerful sporty cars when I have beat em to 60 mph! My little car is just a 2 litre 4 banger lol. They think they will eat u up! But then tend to get a bit of a surprise.

Well you are .1 slower in the 0-60 than the Stock 98 R/T with the dohc motor. It runs in at about 7.5 in the 0-60 according to this site.

http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60times.html
I also found this tid bit of info On a 97 ACR that has less mods than me. I should have a little better time than him in the 1/4 mile. http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Neon-Timeslip-4669.html hear is another but much slower in times http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Neon-Timeslip-800.html this one is a SOHC ACR Time http://www.dragtimes.com/Dodge-Neon-Timeslip-5371.html.......There are about 4-5 pages of neon time slips at this site.......Hope you all enjoy. 1st Gen DOHC neons are supposed to run 0-60 in 7.8 seconds (no info on ACRs). This is assuming the 3.94 manual trans. I should be faster to 60, yet slower to 100 with the 3.55 trans. The only reason i'll be faster to 60 is because i can hit it in 2nd gear. (roughly 68mph @7200rpm in 2nd, 3.55:1 final drive)

Hoodoo, did you time it or just guessing? so far i've just been guessing, i want to time mine when i get down to about 1/2 tank of gas (lighter :D ).

ok well i have the dohc tranny on my sohc motor and i can spin through 2nd on cheap tires easily and part of third ,last weekend i did a huge burnout for like 1/8mile maybe more we have it on video on my friends camera then when i was goin out to mark the 1/4 i backed up and took off and the tires were so warm they were like too warm and i spun through 2nd again.... sucked but i got it all on video and then we got it on video somethign sad lol we watched a h22 vtec prelude but 5 car lengths on a r/t neon with a udp 60mm t/b 3" exhaust ( which is too big... kid kinda dumb) ported intake and matched t/b and intake mani. cai. highflow cat. and we beleave a bigger cam but not sure. but ne way the prelude put 5 cars on him then the popo's came lol it was crazy the neon ran from the cops! got 3 felony charges and 2 misdeameaners! 135 in a 55 lmfao! kid was crazy but we got it all on my friends camera ima have to get them to post it on here!

Sounds great! CHECK THIS OUT.... This is a 2002 Neon R/T at the track. The video is awesome. Haven't figured out how to post a vid on here yet, so this is a sound recording of the video. In the beginning the Neon has trouble starting a full burnout, but once it hooks, smoking!

Later on I tried to listen to this .wav file through here and it doesn't work. Hope it works for you, if not, how do you upload a full video in .mpeg format?
