I have a Black 2000 Dodge Intrepid ES which I realy enjoy driving. So much so I now have 48,000 miles in 2.5 years.
Recently I noticed that the weather stripping and moulding around all 4 car doors appears to be shrinking. This has created a gap that allows road noise and air to pass into the passenger areas of the car.
Has anyone else run into this problem? If so, how did you cure the problem?
Just trying to see if this is a one time thing or a common problem with the Intrepid.

Yes I had the exact same problem with my '98 Intrepid.
Really enjoyed that car.
Cured the prob by trading it in on an '02 Ram 1500

I would've thought Chrysler would have gotten away with that one piece construction weather stripping.
I had the exact same problem on my old 1987 Horizon. What I did was use a soft mallet to ensure the stripping attached to the car body securely. This will of course increase that gap you're talking about. Then I went to the junk yard to find the exact same vehicle (or similiar), took out the weather stripping, took it home, cut out a portion of the junked weather stripping to fit into the gap.
Voila ! No more gap and now your weather stripping is even tighter because you used that hammer to pound it tighter against the car body.
The colour of the junked stripping may not match (depending on the colour of the junked vehicle), but at least you won't have a gap anymore.

I have a 96 intrepid and I have the same thing. I haven't done anything with it. I let my girlfriend drive it and I bought my Ram!
I like my fix the best!

All 2000 and later intrepids had this problem. The dealers no about it all you have to do is take it in and they will replace it with the new and improved type

thats an easy $2 fix. get the smallest vaccume hose you can get from your local parts store (enough to do all doors). Cut the vaccume hose down the center and press it on the metal edge and press the stripping on top of it. It will take up the excess space and never come off again :)!!!!!

I agree with Phil. That happened on my 2000 se before I got my 2002 ES. I took it back to the dealers and they fixed it no charge.

I have the exact same problem on my 2000 ES intrepid (not under warrany any more). The dealer looked at it and said he can replace it at a cost of $75 - ripoff! Any thoughts? Does contacting DOdge customer service help (if this is a known problem)?

have same problem with my 2000 intrepid. Brought it back to dealer and told me the extended warranty didn't cover the weather stripping. Sending a letter or going to call regional customer service office..see if it helps..keep you posted...

I took it to a cheap body shop. The strip had shrunk and was coming loose from the corner part of windows. The guy cut open the strip from the bottom part (at the bottom of the door). He pushed the strip back along the edges on the windows and re-glued it. As a result I have no wind noice coming through my windows any more. I have a 2 inch gap in the weather strip near the bottom of the door but doesn't seem to pose any problem. See if that works for any of you guys!
