I just got my truck home. Its an 86 power wagon, body has a lot of scratches and dings , but no dents and VERY little rust.... Lights and glass are good except for a SMALL crack in the windshield. 318, automatic, runs great, but needs a tranny, has a HUGE chrome step bumper, control for trailer breaks, bed rails, cab length running boards, cruise, AC, tilt, power locks and windows.
Had to have it towed home, but.... INCLUDING the towing fee, it cost me 300 bucks!!!!
now I just have to figure what to do with it, LOL.. I had originally wanted a plum crazy purple street truck, as many of you noticed I was looking for advice on lowering it, had even thought about converting to 2wd. Now that its in the driveway I'm kinda liking how high it sits, thinking of maybe going a little higher, possibly going to 31s or 33s to fill in the wheel wells a little.
I don't know how good it would look jacked up and in purple, so now I"m thinking either sublime green, sassy grass green, or go- mango
any suggestions?

That nice, but trannies are really expensive...really suprised me. I was thinking about buying a 1982 F150 4X4 with a C4 tranny. I called around to see how much it would cost to get it rebuilt (thought it might be something like $300 or something...was only gonna give $120 for the truck), i had to sit down when they told me it was going to cost $1200! This came with a 1 year warranty, or 12K miles whichever came first. If it was me, i'd be looking for a used tranny for it, cuz there's no way i'd pay that much for one that only has a 1 year warranty.

Dodge trannies are cheaper to have built than Fords. Also, it's much cheaper if you pull it out and take it to them. You can usually get a 727 built for around $250, including a new converter.

250!!?!?! wow, I wish I lived near you :[ I'm near KC, Missouri, and the cheapest quote I got on a rebuild if I brought them JUST the tranny was 650... most places wanted over a grand :[

Man, that does sound a little extreme.... The last tranny I had rebuilt was in my 74' Duster (727, with a mildly built 340) and that was $350 with some heavier duty parts because of the engine. That was also 10 years ago, though....
BTW, 4x4's should always be raised.. :D
31's will fit with stock height, but if you wanna run 33's you better have at least a 2" lift (I've been through this already ;) )
Hey, don't just sit there... Start turning wrenches! :D :D :D

good for you. i have t complete trans, tansfer case, crossmember, with shifter. just crop yours out, this whole thing is assembled. just bolt it in. it's out of a 79 power wagon. i had just changed the tranny fluid when the truck frame broke. you can buy the whole package for $ 400.00. not to bad a price. i also have the factory bucket seats with console out of that truck. one needs to be recovered. the truck was a dodge warlock. a cosin to the little red express.

Thanks, but Michigan is a bit far. I'm in KC, Missouri. Good news is I just found an 87 4X4 with a freshly rebuilt tranny and a blown engine and a decent body for $800. It's only about 25 miles away. So after towing it in I should have about $900 into that one and the $300 I have into the 86. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, $1200 for two trucks that should make one really decent truck, I think that's a good idea. lol

I know everybody was looking forward to pictures, I have decided however to abandon the project. I'm putting the truck in the classifieds section in case anybody wants it. I've decided since I don't really want 4wd that it would be silly for me to do up a 4wd and hope I like it. So I may as well sell it for what I have into it. It would be better to let it go to someone who wants it for what it is rather than me try to make it into something that I could live with. Not to mention I just found a hell of a deal on a 68 Fury :)
