I live in northern Alberta and up here everything is just starting to thaw, so naturally the mud is very bad in some spots.

I am baiting black bears up here and I had my truck maybe 300yds off the road and parked it to go check my baits. Spent 1/2 hr in bush and walked back to my truck and saw that the ground had took my truck down a couple inches. So i hopped in my truck and put it in 4HI and tried to slowly back out. Well to say my truck sunk is an understatement. My truck was buried in gumbo halfway up the doors when I finally got on my cell and called a tow truck.

First mistake the tow truck company made was that they sent a Ford dually. Did alright until he got close to my truck and then the heavy ass end bogged down in the muskeg. Spent three hours trying to dig the tow truck out but ended up having to call another pickup out to pull the tow truck out. Good thing it was a Dodge (1500 4X4 Sport) that came and then we had it out in no time.

Called Diamler Chrysler Roadside and they said no way would they cover the cost of pulling me out because I was not on a regularly maintained roadway and that I was on what they call " a recreational trail". They would of covered if I went off the road by accident in the ditch but no way because I was off road. Ended up that the tow trucks got out and they were going to bill me like $800 bucks if they pulled me out since their trucks were stuck from 1:00 to 8:00pm. I stopped them right there and said just to leave me there. So they left and I ended up calling my dad with a Ram 2500 ( which i thought was in the shop when I first got stuck) and he pulled me out.

So a word of warning: even though the diamler customer roadside assistance care brochure says they " are there to help you out" they will not if you are off road.

Ended up that the tow truck company sid that I was responsible for their tow trucks for getting stuck trying to get to me. I told them it was not my fault that the tow truck driver made the call to go in after me and get stuck. The tow truck company owner was not happy and it ended up that I dont owe anything.... thank god.:hair:

if you read the fine print that covers that roadside assistance....DM defines a road as "an asphalt or concrete paved surface" something to that effect.....hence the name of "roadside assistance"

anyways just my 2 cents
