Just installed MSD 8.5 mm wires and NGK Iridium Plugs - noticed a much smoother acceleration and idle... I gapped the plugs at 50 - just 02 difference from stock... i figure on stock boost it wouldn't be that much of a difference... it may just be me... but it almost feels like i have less power? i know that i usually am able to break the tires loose on the top end of 1st gear if i roll out a bit then go WOT... i didn't really notice that after the install, but WOT shifting second still makes my tires exfoliate the ashphalt for a good second... i drove it a quick ride and didn't really pay attention to what i was boosting - i'm gonna take it out for a quick ride again and have the wife come with to pay attention with me...

Perhaps it's just me...

The wife says she gets more and more scared every time she's with me driving. That's a good thing. As for boost - It seems to be boosting fine, I've never had a high boost - but I think my stock purge is leaking (warped?) I'm about 10 in first and 13 in second etc... stock boost from what i've been told

It idles fine, is much smoother now under accell - shakes a lot less at idle, too. Almost seems as if the exhaust is now quieter cuz it runs smoother... is this to be expected with better wires and plugs? I get no miss or anything unusual during WOT - and it doesn't feel like it's going to bog... I guess i'm just paranoid that i'll screw something up, lol... even if it is just plugs and wires.

As long as it feels strong and theres no other troubles I wouldn't worry about it.

I didn't really notice any difference after new plugs and wires. I changed mine out with like 5000 miles on the car, and after stage 2 which recommends NGKs @ 35-40. Now, I recently changed the gap from 37 to 35 and that seemed to make the idle smoother and overall feeling driving the car different/better. Not like a power gain but it feels stronger.

Yeah... it feels strong, idles and accellerates a lot smoother now... I think if I had an issue i'd feel it on accel/decel... either bogging or something of the sort... Damn I've done this crap for years... but when it's a car I like, I get nervous washing the damned thing so I don't accidentally scratch it!

Thanks, Andy!

You after that whole incident in the last fuel thread, I found out that my backfire was due to the wires. So I got new ones and I also noticed a big difference in idle and a bit on the excelleration. The one thing that I really loved was that my car still pulled at high rpm. Before on stock wires and plugs, it seemed that the car would struggle for a spark at about 5000 rpms.

Ninja_matic I'm the same way whenever I add something new. I wouldn't worry about it though from the sound of things you seem in good shape.

26000 miles on mine so you know, I was probably comming close to being in need to new plugs. Hence the big difference with my setup.

I'm still mostly stock in the power department, my first ever horsepower mod i'll hopefully install this weekend :P - So i'm still losing some power in the top end 5k+ in RPM cuz of dropping boost from the stock wastegate, no BC etc...

But as far as the plugz n wires r concerned, i'll be giving her a more thorough ride tomorrow (it's about to rain). But from last nite, everything ran smooth with no bog etc.

:thatfunny HAHAHA! Dude, you sound just like me. Everytime i get a new rattle or sqeak I freak out and i'm like WHATS WRONG!?!?! Usually its just the cheap plastic thats found everywhere on my car vibrating against something LOL one time the squeak was an ice chunk that had formed around my trunk hinge! Here's a tip, this is what I do to cure the paranoia... GO DRIVE A CHEVY! A short trip around the block in my mom's Pontiac Grand Prix (ok, ok, GM, but whatever) and my Neon drives like the best car in the world! I'm serious, drive someone elses vehicle, and you'll realize yours is fine. I here ya though, better to listen to every little thing than ignore something that may cause a serious problem.
