:pimp:

I am looking to add a BODY LIFT to my 2002 Ram 1500 4X4. I heard that Performance Accesories offers a 3" BODY LIFT at a reasonable price. Has anyone on this forum had any experience with this kit or knows of anyone who has actually put this kit to use. I DO NOT want to go the suspension lift route but I am looking at the body lift so I can put 35" rubber under my truck.

Basically what I am trying to find out is if I am going to have problems with installing this kit. I am looking to find out things like how hard of an installation it is ( ie; any welding, gas filler tube extensions, driveline, rad movements etc, etc.)

I talked to dodge tech yesterday and they said I can go ahead and install a body lift. BUT they did say if any warranty work arises and the problem is an attribute to the lift kit the dealership may not cover the warranty work ( ie BIG BUCKS ). I was told that a suspension lift was a more modification intense application and it may have more of a likleyhood of causing problems down the road than a body lift kit would.

I realize that there are a few other outfits that offer suspension/ lift kits but they are either too expensive or just too high of a lift for my needs.

I would appreciate any feedback on this product that anyone in this forum may have.

Body lifts aren't that bad to put on. Generally you're looking at 8 or so body mounts that have to have a spacer put on them, lowereing the radiator, extending the steering shaft and gas filler lines and any other wiring that may be to short. Also plan on having to raise the front and rear bumpers. All of the hardware for this is generally provided by PA and they also include a really good detailed instruction book.

I've heard arguements for both types of lift. IMO it all boils down bigger tires. Thats the only way to get more axle clearance. Also remember that with a boby lift the frame will be alot more visible.

It should only be a day long project, maybe less depending on what type of tools you have access to. Let me know how it goes cuz I'm looking at doing the same to my truck.

Body lifts are not bad if your not going to do any serious offroading and I'll explain why. With both suspension and body lifts change the center of gravity of the vehicle, but in the case of suspension kits replace or compliment the change in gravity and the truck rides better on & off road. Body kits are good for getting bigger tires on for a meaner looking truck, but remember you are replacing the rubber body mounts with hardened plastic and the ride will feel alot bumpier than stock or suspension lift. Both are good choices for different reasons and you best know the applications you will take the truck through, but I do recommend from my past experiences with both it is better to get if professionally installed with a limited warranty than doing it yourself and having to pay to fix something a small warranty could have paid for. Good luck, have fun, and for god sakes keep the cars guessing.

Oh, by the way ProComp has just come out with a complete 6" lift w/ shocks that clear 36's with no other mods. Not to big not to small but just right.

I lifted mine just by putting 2" blocks in the back, leveling the front with the torsion bar and put BFG 315's on it. It looked huge but was pretty much unchanged. When I traded it in, I got full value and the dealer said he sold it in 2 days because of the "beefy" look

if you wanna do some serious off-roading dont do it, but if its just for a meaner look, then go for it, they are cheaper and theyll make your truck look good. but might i suggest something, do the 3" body lift, but also raise the front end 2" to level the truck out(using either torsion keys or cranking the tbars). You could crank the tbars, and get new (longer) shocks, and put on a 3" body lift, and have a cheap 5" lift kit, esp. since all of this can be easliy done, by almost anybody...

I have the 3" body lift and raise the torsion bars about 1.5" with 4 cranks on the torsion bars. I did not put on the lift, I had a shop do it. I love the lift. He said it was a very easy kit to work with. PA will email you the directions if you ask them and you can decide whether or not you can do it yourself. PA is a great outfit. Good luck.
