I have a 2005 Dakota that I bought last April. I started having a problem with my braking system just before 2,000 miles into owning the truck. What happens is when you are coming to a gradual (normal) stop from any speed above 45 mph the whole truck vibrates really bad. At the point when I had 2,000 miles on the truck I got the rotors turned. Then later on I was told it was my rear axle and that was replaced. I finally went to the dealership and got one of the mechanics to ride with me to feel the problem and they replaced the roters. I thought from the beginning that was the problem, but it wasn't because the truck still vibrates and the situation has not improved. I have made about 6 or 7 trips between two different dealerships to try and solve the problem. If anyone has a possible answer to correct the problem I would greatly appreciate it. I have guessed about as much as I can to fix the problem. :help:

Thanks!

Check the thread in the Drivetrain section about "Vibrating Dakotas", or whatever the title is. I had the TSB done which entailed replacing the rear axles and brake housings/pads and my vibration went away. The mechanics at this dealership, Lithia in Santa Fe, knew all about it. Nothing to do with front brake rotors or pads. Check it out.

Has anybody had this problem with the '06 Dakotas? So far I have 5400 miles and haven't noticed anything, yet. (What) Should I start looking (for)?

I am strongly considering a class action lawsuit for my Dak. However, I can't do it alone. Strength comes in numbers! If anyone else is interested in getting to the bottom of this shaking Dak, drop me a PM.

p.s. My latest dilema is: Every time I send an e-mail to customer support, the return e-mail states that my problem has been resolved and no further action is required! BS!!!!!!!! The dealership has also been doing there best at evading me! BS!!!!!!!!! :VHOT:

I can’t believe I found this site. I feel like the little girl in the bee suit in the Blind Melons video that finds all the other folks dressed up as honeybees and dancing around at the end.

Anyway, I bought an ’05 Dak in November - QC, 4x4, 3.55, 4.7 anti-slip rear dif.
I have had continual vibration & braking problems since the start – but always assumed the tires just needed to be balanced. Since I only drove the truck on occasion and my wife used it for errands and didn’t have issues, I never worried about it.

Well, I sold my TDI VW several months ago and starting driving the truck R/t 100 miles/day – This truck is a horror story!!!
The vibrations, the rear jumping and grabbing when the brakes are applied are horrific - onceit stars vibrating and shimmying I either have to speed up to 85 or slow down to 20 to get it to stop.

I took it to the dealer 4 times only to get the following from each visit:
Balanced/rotated tires – Road tested – No issues
Resurfaced front rotors Road tested – No issues.
Check tire pressure – Road tested no issues.
Replaced all tires and wheels – Road tested No issues.
Of course, in each case, the problem was not solved. In fact, each time I specifically explained this occurred at highway speeds, however, the dealer is not near a hwy and only road tests on the main road outside their dealership and therefore simply wasted my time, even thgouh they were aware of issues with these models.

On the 5th visit, the Foreman rode with me and said he learned of a fix with a new axle in a class, but that there wasn’t a TSB out on it. He then had me drive an ‘06 and said the vibration is simply a characteristic of the truck.
No F**king Way!!!!! I am not going to continue to drive a vehicle that I can see my hand shaking on the steering wheel at all times!!!

I ended up contacting a lemon law attorney and they are going after DC under the lemon law in my state. Funny, the dealer wants me to keep bringing it in under the same open work order as the 4th visit (The attorney said he probably doesn’t want to close it out because he knows my state is a lemon law state and it would expose them to having to refund my full purchase price). Amazing these Service desk guys all have the same lines memorized to tell customers, that I read about in the past posts in this forum.

I can’t wait to lose this truck – I am fed up with it and the constant vibrations.

Dude, if anyone knows me from all my post on several Dak forums than you know that I feel your pain. I was sooooo happy even taking a chance on a Dodge purchase again to have this new Dak. I couldn't wait for the six weeks for it to come in. I had all these plans to do a ton of cool mods etc. But low and behold it went to hell in a hand basket. Mine is a 06 and thought I don't have a vibration problem (yet) I have engine and trans problems etc. Yes I’m very close to the lemon law thing myself here in FL. The dealers do say the same thing as if they where schooled in what to say and how to act. Keep at it though and don't let them get away with it. You work to hard for the money these truck cost you. I know you heard this before but good luck.

I posted in another thread on this forum about the brake/vibration issue, I have a 05 Quad Cab ST, 3.7 with auto transmission, got it in March of 05 and now have around 9200 miles on it. The truck has had some vibration on and off the past couple of years, and it got real bad this past summer. This past Wednesday I had the front rotors turned by a brake shop and I thought it had fixed my problems, but tonight I went out to the home center and on the way back I went to apply my brakes and the truck was shaking so bad the dash was jumping up and down...violent shaking...this can't be good for the front suspension. Now I'm concerned about the safety of driving the truck...guess I'll be contacting my dealer come Monday :-( .

My 2006 is smooth as glass after 3400 miles, both on the highway and while braking. I'm hoping that if those problems have not showed up by now that they will NEVER show up. I do believe a few 2006 models do have all the vibrating going on though, I remember a couple guys complaining about it in that "vibrating Dakota" thread.
