Ok another silly question but I don't have an owners manual to find the answer. I have been given two answers to this question. How do you properly shift into four wheel drive. I have been told you can shift to 4-hi while moving up to 50 mph but have to be completely stopped and in neutral to shift to 4-lo. I have also been told you must be at a complete stop to shift to 4-hi or 4-lo. By the way the truck is an 88 w/318 and an auto tranny. Thanks for any help

If everything is working right, you should be able to shift on the fly from 2 high to 4 high and back again. Drivers side visor should have instructions from the factory if it is still there..
If you find that it won't shift into 4 high from 2 high on the move, then the actuator isn't doing its job. Switch on the transfer case that provides vaccuum to the actuator could be the culprit.

Ageed with Zeker (hey buddy!) on the shifting and the visor instructions. But, some trucks, like mine (Stupid trans -case), are worn bad enough that they won't shift on the fly from 2wd-4hi. Must be stopped to shift. Rebuild time.....
