Some time ago, I submitted a thread on this topic. I assumed CV joints and Gasman said maybe motor mounts. It is still shimmying, as its to cold to tear into it, up here in Ontario, Ca.. Its not motor mounts, as far as I can tell. Although, I noticed the other day, that when it shimmies, at about 60km/hr, the stering wheel doesn't shake. I thought if it CV joints, you'd feel it in the steering. Anybody shed some light on this for me. Anyway to check CV's, without tearing apart...Any help would be greatly appreciated......Brad

I know it is a little fresh up here to be working outside or eben in an un-heated garage

You might first of all try moving the front wheels to the back ans obviously vice versa.

This will tell you if the shimmy/vibration is somehwere other than in the wheels/tires; if the vibration moves to the back - then bob's your uncle

Another thing to check for, presuming you have drum brakes in the back, is to be sure the parking brake and/or the service brakes are not sticking

I have had occasions when the rear brakes were dragging; the brake drums were also mildly out of round and it set up a vibration that made it feel like the car was going to fall apart

But, rotate the tires front to back; the excercise will keep you warm and it is an easy way to eliminate problems

Well, it is super nice up here in southern Ontario today, so I rotated all tires, diagonally, of course, and wobble still there. Not a tire issue. I noticed when I had front end off ground and driver wheel off, that the outer CV joints boot is split. Now, my Haynes manual says, my symptons reflect an inner CV joint issue, but maybe its a combination of both. I have to wait 2 weeks until next payday, and pray for nice weather, so I can get out and change the driverside drive axle(CV joints). I've done it before, so no issues there. I will let you all know if this is for sure the problem...
