I have a 1999 Grand Caravan SE, 3.3L W/ 4 speed auto.

My wife began complaining about a lurch from 2nd to 1st. I work at a very small Dodge Dealership, so I brought it in, and they scanned it. I don't remember all the codes, but do rememer one was "loss of prime". They thought maybe "relearning" the trans may help, so they did that. The lurch went completely away, but it started frequently go into "limp mode". (never did that before.) Simply turning off and re starting would put it back to normal, however it generally resists going into 1st gear. Starts in second from a dead stop. (If you gun it, sometimes it finds 1st.) I brought it back in, and it had the following codes:

P1788 Hydrolic Pressure Test Failure
P0734 Gear Ratio Error in 4th
P1775 Solenoid switch valve latched in the TCC position
P1791 Loss of prime
P1782 24 Pressure switch sense circuit
P1790 Fault immediately after shift
P0732 Gear ratio error in second

We cleared the codes, relearned, and topped off the fluid, with 1 qt. I drove it again, still starting in second. Pretty soon my check engine light came on again, this time with:

P0700 Transmission Control Module

I also read on another site about the acc/on/acc/on etc and got a code 23 from the dash, which I believe would indicate the Input Speed Sensor.

Another aside, recently I was having a leak in the gasket for the solenoid pack, which I replaced (gasket only) and the leak went away.

I am not convinced it is mechanical, because the tranny was fine, save a small lurch, until the first relearn. I am about to do the speed sensor since it is so cheap, but could that solve all these codes?

Thanks,

David

If it was just a speed sensor you wouldn't have all those codes. What stands out is the PO1788 loss of hydrolic pressure. This means you have a bad internal seals which are leaking and bleeding of the pressure, thats why your getting the lurch shift and the main reason its defaulted to "LIMP MODE" 2nd gear only. The only way to fix it is with a rebuild, because the transmission has to be taken apart to get at the seals.
