92 tranny gone?

My husbands 92 6 cyl... with 230,000 miles thinks the tranny croaked...but he's wondering if it could be something else (I think he's in denial).
It runs great lots of power but only has 1st, sometimes 2nd... sometimes it acts like nothing happened. Is it possible that it could be a module or sensor or something simple?...He really liked his work van..but I don't think its worth putting another tranny in at this many miles. What do you think?

If its stuck in only 2nd, it could be limp mode which is when the TCM (trans computer) thinks something is wrong.

Being stuck in 1st or any other gear means something is kaput internally.

Only sure way is to get it scanned for TCM error codes and a CVI test- that will show whats really going on with it.

The odds are not good, but its too early to say if its doomed.
