From Audio System to World Engine, Visteon Delivers Quality Sound on New Dodge Caliber
VAN BUREN TOWNSHIP, Mich., Feb. 14 -- As the new 2007 Dodge
Caliber makes its way to showrooms this week, Visteon (NYSE: VC) is watching
... and listening. Visteon Corporation supplies the new compact car with its
audio system, as well as a specific engine sound.
Through close interaction and cooperation with DaimlerChrysler, Visteon
Corporation developed two air induction systems for the available engines that
power the fuel-efficient Caliber. These systems give the car its smooth engine
sound, or "acoustic signature."
"Visteon worked with DaimlerChrysler engineering from the program outset
to ensure the team delivered precisely the acoustic signature desired inside
the passenger cabin," explained Julie Fream, Visteon customer group vice
president and general manager.
DaimlerChrysler identified acoustic targets, and Visteon used its
computer-aided engineering tools and developmental test facilities for noise,
vibration and harshness minimization until all engine acoustic signature
targets were met.
The 2007 Caliber moves with serious authority, due in part to the low-
restriction air induction system developed by Visteon. This system allows the
vehicle's World Engines - developed jointly by DaimlerChrysler, Mitsubishi and
Hyundai - to produce more power. The three World Engines produce an impressive
148-horsepower for the 1.8-liter engine, 158-horsepower for the 2.0-liter
engine and 172-horsepower for the 2.4-liter engine.
Visteon, in partnership with Boston Acoustics(R), also provides the
premium branded audio system on the new Dodge Caliber. Visteon's audio
engineering expertise combines with Boston Acoustics' custom-designed,
precision-crafted speakers to distribute the smooth, octave-to-octave tonal
balance known as the Boston Sound(TM).
This vehicle was unveiled at the 2006 North American International Auto
Show.
Visteon Corporation is a leading global automotive supplier that designs,
engineers and manufactures innovative climate, interior, electronic and
lighting products for vehicle manufacturers, and also provides a range of
products and services to aftermarket customers. With corporate offices in Van
Buren Township, Mich. (U.S.); Shanghai, China; and Kerpen, Germany; the
