I have an '03 intrepid (recently recovered after being stolen #@! hoodlums) and am looking to make sure I take the best care of it as possible. The owners manual says to use 87 octane, and maybe to go as high as 89, but that higher (92 or 93) may somehow damage the engine. Any thoughts on this? How is it supposed to damage the engine? Am I REALLY better off with lower quality fuel?

Yes, you are better off running the regular grade. Without getting to far into it, the higher octane gas burns a bit slower, or at a higher temp, something like that. I've run all grades in my Intrepid, but it definitely runs as good as any on the 87. Besides, it's the least expensive.
