MPH Online has a rumors section where they believe the Chrysler Group will unveil a 300 hp Dodge Caliber at a press junket in the Arizona desert. That is 70 more HP over the Neon SRT-4. If the SRT-4 did 0-60 in 5.6 second, do you think the Caliber SRT -4 can do 0-60 in under 5 seconds?

The Neon SRT-4 did not have 230hp, thats just the number of ponies Dodge said it had. They actually put out somewhere in the neighborhood of 270bhp, Most stock SRT-4's were putting down between 225 and 235 HP AT THE WHEELS. If 300bhp is a true number for the SRT Caliber, it wont be much faster than the SRT Neon, because its heavier. If that is an underrated number as well, expect the SRT Caliber to be a few 10ths of a second faster to 60, and a few 10ths faster at the 1/4. Gearing will affect acceleration times as well, so its hard to guess how fast it will be until one is actually tested.

Well, the SRT design may grow on me, but it doesnt knock me out of my socks by any stretch. At least I can look at it without wincing though, cant say the same for the base Caliber design.

To quote one of my favorite Porsche Cayanne Turbo commercials,
"Do you really need 450 horsepower to run to the store to pick up diapers? ... Have you ever run out of diapers?"

It's a new turbo 2.4L, http://www.allpar.com/cars/dodge/caliber-srt4.html
The extra HP will help make up the weight difference. It'll be interesting to see the real performance results when it comes out... Like rice eater was saying above, the current SRT-4 2.4 is underrated from Dodge, especially in 03 where it was dynoing more power to wheels than Dodge was even rating it lol.
I don't think this Caliber SRT-4 will be too much faster stock than the Neon SRT-4. A few tenths most likely. The driver is key, these aren't the easiest cars to drive being FWD with monster torque.
One thing I find interesting is this engine is 300hp but still 250tq. 300HP Neon SRT-4s would be pushing 300+lb ft

Makes me wonder if they kept the torque down for warranty reasons. I wonder if there will be 3 levels of performance parts offered like the srt4 neon. That would give it some silly power.
