What is the proper way to disable it? I tried to do exactly as the manual states, but it doesn't work. I'ver tried it at least 3 dozen times and followed the directions to the letter.
Did the manual writers fail to include a step in order to disable this pest?

We rented an 05 Chrysler T/C Short Wheelbase - ANNOYING DAMN DINGER - I buckle up all the time, but as I recall that damn dinger would go constant if you so much as wanted to back your car out of the GARAGE. - I did use the fix the manual suggested (Some sort of key/lock switch dance) and it was back to a normal working car (Dings on key on, but doesn't drive you nutz.
I found several other annoyances on the 05 vs. my 97...
1. - Door lock knob sticks up. - I usually use that edge as my armrest - the 97 had a nice flush lock - 05's have a stupid knob sticking up.
2. - Dinger is very overzealous! - Dings with the seatbelt (though it can be fixed) - Dings when you have the key in ACC position to listen to the radio when the doors are open. - My 97 disables the little dinger when it's in ACC position.
3. - Noisy powertrain and shifts rougher than my 97 - Same 3.3L engine. - That may be the LE vs. T/C LX Short wheelbase thing, but I thought things were supposed to get better with time.
4. - Something about hazards when the side doors are open - ANNOYING - I did turn that off on that rental as well.
5. - Stow and Go is good in many ways, but makes the middle seats rather uncomfortable. - Spare tire is impossible to get out in the winter (Center under Drivers/Passengers seats). And the exhaust pipe runs way too close to the side of the van - If the kids lose some toy and reach down there it looks like they could get burned very quickly.
6. - Is there a stereo upgrade coming sometime??? - Honda/Toyota offer nice JBL systems with Subwoofers, - the 05 T/C Limiteds I've looked at have additional operational features, but no better speakers or sound...
No big dealbreakers, but if Chrysler had things working better in 97, why not keep up the good work... - They are still night and day above the GM van's. - Though the Toyota Sienna I drove was very tempting!

I heard they went the cheap route on interior lighting too. Fewer lights. Fewer lighted switches, etc., etc.
