My wife had a few last minute "honey dos" that needed to be done today. We're having a lot of family over for Christmas Eve/Day. Hav'nt drove the Charger for about a week and volunteered to go shopping (naturally I had my own agenda..cuse I hate shopping). I took the list and flew out the door before she thought of anything else. Well...I finished my last errand on what was an uneventfull trip. Uneventfull that is untill I came to a stop light. What pulls next to me is a red 06 Mustang GT with a 20 year old driving..I see him eying the HEMI logo on the left fender. Now he starts blipping and reving. I cut the ESP off shifted into manual mode knowing this kid was gonna "go for it". Well he did, and not being one to deny my juvenile tendancies, so did I. We were tied off the line, but the Hemi just pulled away. It took him a couple of seconds to pull up next to me at the next light..This time no blipping or reving. The kid would'nt even look at me. So I figured...arrogant little s--t, and decieded to give him an early Christmas present.I caught him giving me a sideward glance and I motioned to him to lower his passenger window and then said...Hey kid....that mustang runs real good for a six cylinder.Maybe I should of been kinder to him because I noticed the $30.00 cake I just picked up at the yuppie bakery was lying upside down on the passengers floor board. To my way of thinking..putting that kid in his place was worth the $30 bucks but not the additional $30 to get another cake. Geez, I love this car. :gr_patrio

Good one. You must have the "good driver mod" done to your car. :rck:
So I'm guessing you like your Charger. ;)

Oh man, the part about the cake on the floorboard is hilarious!
Been there, went back to the store and fetched another....while tossing out the evidence in the nearest dumpster, lest the misses detect something.

Awesome story and a FUNNY one at that........cant tell you how many times I would offer to go to the store Just so I could take one of my Hot cars out and waste a few punks and squash a few loafs of bread before going back home. FREAKIN Hilarious Man!!!!:thatfunny
I dont know which one was the funnest though........My 67 Impala with a 408 Chevy small block,3500 stall,4.11 gears........way big car that would embarress many Mustangs and Camaros......they wouldnt even know what hit them and would see the foot and a half long taillights on each side dissappearing.I actually ran a few motorcycles off the line.......I didnt stand a chance after the launch but would make them chase me anyway for a few seconds!!!!!
That engine was later put in my 72 Chevy Short Wide Bed truck after My 454 took a few rod/main bearings out..........it was just as fun but didnt have as much convertor or gear. Still a blast playing with those later model Camaros and Mustangs.:D

I honestly don't believe most people understand just how fast these Chargers are. Anyone that started driving American autos since the gas crunch of the early 70's probably have never even seen a car with 340 horsepower much less street raced one. (not that I condone that). It's like the old west walking at red lights with the Hemi, every one wants to "see who's fastest. The surprising part is just how little gas pedal is needed to be "fastest". Like some one said in a previous post..................
I LOVE THIS CAR!

My fiance traded in a 2003 nissan 350z for her r/t.And she says that the charger would out run the nissan easily.I would have to agree.

Thats awsome. :rck: The cake part is hilarious. I use to clean the passenger side floor mat in my Durango till I got smart and started putting items on the floor insted of on the seat. :D I hope to own a charger some day. :thatfunny

Don't know what kind of mods are on the Charger or if it was R/T -SRT, but everything I've read is that the GTs are equal to the SRT chargers in performance. The 300hp GT and the 340hp Charger both dyno within 10hp of each other and the GT is almost 1000lbs lighter.
I've driven them both (R/T version), and I bought the GT because it was faster and also the aftermarket trips all over themselves trying to make stuff for them.
Not trying to dis the charger because I love them but from the factory, it isn't faster than the GT.
BTW, the GT is gone when the Challenger comes out. :rck:
(Know this is an older post, but I was poking around from the Durango section)

Anyone remember the scene from "Easy Money" with Rodny Dangerfield?
The one where they splatter the wedding cake all over the inside of the windshield.

Really, the only question I have is; Charger RT 4050 lbs. Mustang GT 3600 Lbs. Or at least that is what the Ford web site claims the GT weighs. That's a far cry from a 1000 lb weight difference. Have you had your GT on scales? No disrespect, but I've seen 14.1 ET reported for R/Ts and 13.8 for the GTs. Makes sense for a nice big comfy four door sedan that it would be "ONLY" .3 tenths off a purpose built performace car with no back seat to speak of, and 400 to 500 lbs lighter.

The "1000lbs" was tongue-in-cheek.
I guess everyone has seen the charger vs. mustang "bullitt" remake article? The 1/4 mile & 0-60 difference was .8 sec. which is a significant gap. That 13.8sec for a GT sounds like one with an auto tranny. 13.5 is more common.
Was just surprised how the original poster said he walked away from a new GT. I also understand that it's an apples to oranges comparison between the two cars. I love them both. The interior of the charger is far superior to the mustangs. I think the seats are perfect in the R/T.

O.K. Now I feel compelled to put my 2 cents in....As the original poster all I can tell you is the "Stang" got blown away. It's that simple. What a person reads and what happens in the real world are two different things. Mebbe the kid lacked a little testicular fortitude, mebbe he had the flu, mebbe his wallet slipped out of the console and got stuck under the accelerator pedal or mebbe he did'nt want to loose his cake like I did...Bottom line......HE LOST....Like the old saying goes "clothes don't make the man" and cars don't make the driver.. Nuff said!!!!!!

Well said. But I'm glad someone posted the link to the article. I like 13.9 for the R/T. Also, as for drivers, I went to Commerce Georgia for a Mopar meet. In the drag race it was Mopar vs. the world so every kind of car was in it. The one I watched through the day was a new GT. He never got out of the 15s. I suppose it was his first time on a strip with a clutch.

Wow. Over on the mustang boards, noobs and guys having a bad day dont have any problems staying in the 14's at the track. High 12's are easy and fairly cheap to obtain with these new GTs (CAI, exhaust, retune, pulleys & DRs.)
FWIW, The V6's run low 15's and can be ordered from ford to look like a GT (except for the dual pipes & badges)

Yeah and I saw a "Road & Track" road test on the Charger R/T where they didn't even know how to turn off the ESP. Needless to say they didn't get very good 0-60 times either.

The driver definitely makes it happen. I've been racing superbikes on the track since 2001. Been instructing riders on the track since maybe 2000. It never fails to amuse. We'll get a new rider in with the latest and greatest bike one can buy. He will have every HP modification you can make. Worse, the bike might even, depending on his level of, um, immaturity, have a lot of bling and shiney bits added. The amusing thing is his suspenion will be bone stock. Why? Because it never enters his mind that HP is not everything. In his mind, he is already gonna kick butt. But like we tell them, cornerspeed is EVERYTHING. If you can't late brake, hold energy through the apex and get on the throttle early, it won't matter if you have 50HP over the next guy. You will get passed and you will get beat. I would imagine drag racing is the same. If your response time is slow, it won't matter what you've done to the car, the other guy with better reflexes and skill is gonna stomp you. Good life lesson there. You can not buy SKILL. You have to earn it the hard way by starting slow, building your skill sets and learning every step of the way.
Anyway, I loved the story. It reminded me of something that happened on the way to the track one day. A kid in a Honda something or other (sorry, all the little box cars look the same to me) with a hilariously silly sounding exhaust system, cut my partner off trying to stuff in front of us in a no passing zone. Now, we were in an ASTRO Van. Keith, the driver and my racing partner at that time, is sitting there with one arm on the window sill, the other on the wheel and an evil grin on his face. Whistling what ever tune was on the radio like Tommy Lee Jones in Men in Black. The kid tried to accellorate away though the corners and we would have let him except for the flip-off he gave as he zipped by. lol. Man, when it was all over Keith rolled his window down, looked BACK at the kid and said, so hows it feel to have you *** handed to you by a 40 year old in a mini-van?
I was white knuckled the entire time (70 mph around tight descreasing radius turns in a friggin van for gods sake!) but it just went to show, you can add all kinds a bits to your toy but if you can't drive it, well, don't piss off old guys who can! hehe.

wera710....You said it all..I don't understand why some people just can't GET IT. Your comments are precisely what I was trying to say. Some tend to take it personally...Me..I look at it as "win a few..loose a few".There is always going to be something faster and someone better behind the wheel. Personally, I don't worry about it..I'm enjoying my Charger and having some fun..The most fun driving in a loooong time.
