I rebuilt a 360 and put it in my truck but removed the A/C and need to get alternator belts for my truck. The parts stores tell me there is an idler pulley and the Dodge dealer says there is not, can someone please tell me the deal. The belts before ran from the crank and drove the alternator, fan and A/C, not sure what the right answer is. Also just wondering if anybody has ever heard of how good the DUI distributor is or if it is worth the money.
Thanks for your help

There was an idler pulley used in some instances, but not sure of the specifics. I would scour a few junkyards.

Here's a pic from the parts book and you can see 3 different versions. Does your truck have the 60 amp or 100 amp alternator? When looking from the side will 1 belt ALIGN straight with all the pulley grooves or will 2 belts align with all the pulley grooves? Sometimes the water pump pulley needs to be changed to get 2 belts to work. You can get belts in any length you need but you have to go to someone like NAPA and a parts counter guy that can interpret the part number to belt length.

I saw an add in one of my Mopar Muscle mags about that DUI ( Davis Unified Ignition...GM design ) distributor. My grandfather has a 78 van with the 360 and he had real bad ignition problems. We tried to weed out everything and couldn't find the problem. He got so frustrated that he was giving up. He wanted to start from scratch which would be expensive. I told him about the DUI and he wanted to try it. I told him about the website and he checked into it. He ended up buying one. If I can remember correctly, I think it did away with alot of stuff like, the coil, ballast resistor, ECM, Electronic Control Module, etc ( correct me if I'm wrong ). It's been 2 years now and I forgot!! :D This thing solved his problem. I feel bad about providing him information on a GM design distributor for Mopars but, I got tired of him calling me wanting my Mallory Unilite. I gave him info on that as well but, it still uses alot of things that we were trying to weed out. So, he chose the DUI. I know this probably didn't help much but, I thought I would give you some info.
