The wife has a 2K mini van the engine light came on over the weekend,I tried the self test of holding the trip & reset button while turning the key to run.The code that appeared was 55,I can't find the description for this code.
Anybody hear of this code?

my wifey has a 2K minivan too. It is the SE edition with the sport rack and 2.4 engine. I had to change the spark cables because the generic ODB reader located a misfiring problem on the 3rd piston. It solved the problem like a charm and paid itself off (harborfreight(.)com itemnumber=46030)
anyway according to the code book I got your code might be 551. it seems like you won the greencard lottery or something . LOL
and 0551 is Power Steering Pressure Sensor Circuit Range(slash)Performance
Well these codes are very nerdy it could be something simple or it malfunctioned
and needs reset like my torque convertor circuit error.
I suggest you to inspect the Power Steering system with all the cables and any other thing which could be related to it.
And make sure you fix this asap because It is extremely drive without power steering on the freeway! Specially in California..
Hope this helps now I will go back to do my research for my leaking oil pan replacement. If anybody knows where I can buy an after market oil pan for 2.4 DOHC please let me know.
thanks

Thank's for the help, sorry I can't help you in the oil pan dept. The wifes van is an SE & has a 3.3 L for the past year the belt squeeks some, and that's my reminder that's it's time for an oil change. :D The belt looks fine and has minimal wear on it.
The wife came home from work and said the light is now off.....I dunno I guess I'll wait to see what happens.
Thank's again & I'll post again if any thing comes up.

If you want to get the straight skinny on why your "service engine" light came on, take it to an auto parts store that will scan your codes for free. Auto Zone, Advance, and O'Reilly do it around here, and Murray's in Michigan/Ohio/Indiana. They just come out to the car in the parking lot, plug in the scanner, and tell you what it says. No charge, and no obligation to buy your parts then and there.
Good luck, and let us know what you find.

that runs the instrument cluster diagnostics
code 999 means end of codes/no problems
INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DTC TABLE
DTC DESCRIPTION
110 MEMORY FAULT IN CLUSTER
111 CALIBRATION FAULT IN CLUSTER
905 NO CCD BUS MESSAGES FROM TCM
921 ODOMETER FAULT FROM BCM
940 NO CCD BUS MESSAGES FROM PCM
999 END OF CODES
holding the trip and reset buttons wont give you any DTC's only the ones that are related to the instrument cluster listed above
this applies to '96 through 2000 caravans

You're posts are a little vague. Do I get it right? Your "service engine" light is on?
If that's the case, there is no on-board way to read engine trouble codes in a 2000-model-year minivan. You must have a scan tool to get the codes from minivans, starting in the 1999 model year. Sorry, Blu, but you must make a trip to AutoZone if you haven't already done so.
The most likely culprit of the SES light is an oxygen sensor. You have two of them on this van. One on the exhaust pipe right behind the catalytic converter, and one up on the exhaust manifold.
Of course, it could also be a bad EGR valve, MAP sensor, etc., etc., etc. But you need to go get the codes scanned to find out.
Good luck, and let us know what you find.

If 55 is all you got then the computer see's no abnormal codes ,that just means end of codes. It could have been something as simple as you or her didn't tighten down the fuel cap the last time you filled up , this can trigger the engine light too.

Thank's Rick,
It is the service engine light.last night I went out to the garage & disconnected the - terminal and kept it opff for 3 minutes or so.The light didn't come on and didn't today, the wife say's that it's running a lil slugish, not to mention the belt is squeeking like a bitch, maybe there's more than I think. :VHOT:
I'll take it down to Auto zone and get the skinny on it,I will post the findings.

First, replace the belt. If it still squeaks, it may be an accessory has siezed or has blown its bearings. Most likely culprits would be AC, water pump, or Power steering, since alternator would eventually leave you stranded with a dead battery. Take it to a trusted mechanic to diagnose further.
