HELP! my 99 GC ignition cylinder is stuck and trying with both master keys it won't turn. The steering wheel won't lock in both directions but I did hear the lock clicking mechanism when turning the steering wheel half round in both directions.

Problem now is I can't even take the lock cylinder out to check as it needs to be in the "run" position to be removed. Shifter feels locked in "Park" position, any other components I can check?

Same problem happened to me. Dealer removed and installed a new lock. I think it was about 200 bucks for a new lock cylinder and labor. autozone didn't carry my lock cylinder.

Update: Managed to get the lock cylinder out after key wiggling for 30mins, cannot find the replacement lock cylinder in the local parts stores (Advance and NAPA), is the lock a dealer only part?

Yes, I believe so. I couldn't find one for my voyager. After paying the dealer to fix the van, my Jeep Grand Cherokee did the same thing. I installed a remote starter switch and ran the wires into the cabin. put the key in, turn to on position, hit the remote switch. :)

Hi Dirk0, did the new lock cylinder came with new keys or you were able to use the old keys? I saw the OEM lock cylinder online for $20, not sure if keys still needs to be made for the new cylinder.

same key for me, but the dealer had the right key code lock at another location. Otherwise I would have a different key.

Thanks, is the key code in the lock cylinder or somewhere else in the van?

I have no idea. I think they got the info from the VIN.

You could try a junkyard for the lock & key.

Alternately could be the lock/switch just needs some graphite based lube (used in locksmithing), went threw this with my car a lil while ago, had an old tin of the locksmithing lube from.... prolly the 1960s lol, but it fixed it and I havent had problems since.

Problem solved, got the lock cylinder assy to a local locksmith and they replaced the cylinder and re-keyed it. :)
