Does anyone have access to a schematic of the ignition control box for a 1987 1/2 ton 2wd 318 CID? I've got a student that has a no start condition that seems to be electrical in nature (possible rodent damage) and a schematic would really help.

Thanks,

Is it carbed or TBI? Probably a Haynes repair manual should have it, or better yet, a factory service manual, they're kinda expensive though. Chump may have a schematic he can post though.

Is this the computer you are talking about? If so make sure the 10 and 14 pin connectors are making good connections, the female terminals will sometimes spread open, pin 5 especially. Also that computer is known to cause alot of problems. Are you looking for wiring diagrams to fix some chewed through wires or to diagnose the no-start condition?

Thanks for the info Chump.

I'm trying to help him diagnose a no-start condition. So far he's got no power coming to the coil. The truck is carbbed and he is getting fuel to the plugs. The truck ran when he parked it with clutch problems, but now he has someone that wants to buy it so now it won't start.

He parked it in an old barn and around here that means mice and wood rats. I'm only assuming that there may be wiring damage since I have not actually seen the vehicle.

I try my best to help him - after all he is a Ford guy and feels a bit lost around a Dodge.

Final Update - Rodent Damage!

Something chewed through the wiring to the distributor. A few hours of looking and a few minutes of repair and it fired right up.

Thanks everyone for all your help.

I've never owned one of that generation, but I know a few people that were so sick of fighting with it they ripped it out entirely and retrofitted a mid-70's electronic ignition system into it.

Thanks again,
