Squeeky Steering

MY 98 STATUS SQUEEKS IN THE STEERING COLUMN IT HAS 12,000 MILES CANTHIS BE FROM THE COLD WEATHER?:dunno:

Is the squeek coming from inside the cab, or in the engine compartment? I know my Stratus has a squeek whenever I turn the steering wheel, but I'm pretty sure that is from two pieces of vinyl rubbing against each other.
